Any word yet on a potential release date for this CD? Lani's presence or not, I'll still give the CD a chance.
Now, let me make myself perfectly clear:
1. I realize that Alpert and Hall are married.
2. I realize that they tour together.
Those things said though, when I listen to an Alpert album, I am listening to it because I want a relaxing instrumental recording to listen to. Even if Alpert did a duet with an old master tape of Elvis Presley's, Gene Pitney's, or Lesley Gore's (these are my three favorite vocal artists), I'd probably still refer to the album as being "sullied by vocals." That statement was by no means meant as a personal attack on Lani Hall since I have no idea what she sounds like.
Let's not forget, after all, that the TJB song that most people consider the worst of the bunch, "Talk to the Animals" was a vocal track. Let's not forget that tijuanabrass.com says that the two clunkers on Warm are the two vocal tracks (although I personally don't think "Without Her" is actually that atrociously bad). My point, and my personal opinion (although I do respect those of you who do not share it) is this:
Alpert's trumpet + vocals < Alpert's trumpet - vocals
I have now said my piece for the time being. I still am excited that Alpert is releasing something new and look forward to hearing it.
