Bless the Beasts and Children DVD Release

Discussion in 'A Song For You: The Carpenters Forum' started by CarpentersToYou, Feb 11, 2012.

  1. Warner Shop has just announced the release of "Bless the Beasts and Children" on their "Made to order" DVD series. While this isn't a standard release into department stores and DVD stores, the DVD is made as soon as you order it on the link below. I own several Judy Garland DVDs (Little Nellie Kelly, Andy Hardy Meets Debutante, etc) and the video quality of these DVDs are fantastic. They just lack bonus features that we tend to see on national releases. Often the only bonus feature offered is the movie trailer. (you can see that the Carpenters are listed on the front cover)

I was excited to see this finally got released by the Warner Archive, Alex. For the screen aspect ratio, the email alert had it listed as 16x9 widescreen but on the site itself, it says: 16 x 9 Full Frame. So now I'm wondering if it's a widescreen release or not. I hope it is.
I've been very pleased with the Warner Archive Collection DVDs I own, with the exception of "Under the Rainbow". The picture quality is not so good on that one. On the whole their releases look great though.

Cool! I have never seen this movie. I actually had no idea what it was even about. I always assumed it had something to do with children, but judging from the poster I was way off! LOL!

The poster does confuse me a bit, however. I was always of the understanding that Richard and Karen went to see this movie one night, heard the song in the movie and decided to record it. I didn't think their version was actually in the movie, but the poster seems to indicate it was. Am I remembering that story wrong?

You're confusing it with the movie LOVERS AND OTHER STRANGERS and the song "For All We Know". Stanley Kramer was readying BLESS THE BEASTS AND CHILDREN and approached Richard and Karen about doing a song for the film that had been composed by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr.

See this thread for more info about Mr. de Vorzon's Youtube interview and the soundtrack:

Thanks Harry! You are totally right!!! I was thinking of "For All We Know." Guess I'll chalk that up to a Monday morning brain malfunction. At least I had the same album! Ha ha!

I've also never seen Lovers and Other Strangers.

It is about children, but not little kids -- the "children" in the movie are teenage "outcasts," boyswho didn't "fit in" to their respective peer groups for one reason or another -- and who all wind up in the same tent at a summer camp. It's a very good movie. It's a tearjerker though -- and not in the sappy way of Hollywood tearjerkers of today. Keep your box o'tissues ready if you watch it.

The Carpenters title tune appears over the opening credits, in a remixed version (different from on the A SONG FOR YOU album).

Should have been a "PG13" rating back then (which was Rated "GP" at the time) because someone is pointing the middle finger. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

At one time the whole movie was on Youtube in parts. I watched part of it. If I remember correctly there is alot of language in it....so probably not suitable for a younger audience....but then I am pretty conservative...

Yeah it would probably be a PG-13 now. A "middle finger" probably wouldn't do it, though... -- it would be for violence, "rude humor" or language. I wouldn't recommend it for anybody under about 10, not so much for the language or whatever but because they just might find it boring. A movie's rating is not an indication of the audience it's aimed at. (Gone With The Wind is no kiddie film but it's still rated G!)
