"Neil Sedaka: King of Song" is a BBC documentary which I just saw tonight.

The show features Neil and Phil Cody. When it got to "Solitaire" Neil mentioned that Andy Williams and The Carpenters covered it and that some versions were better than his.
The Carpenters version was played for about 30-60 seconds. And one man being interviewed said that Karen Carpenter had an Amazing voice and that she put 100% investment into the song.
The Carpenters were also mentioned in another part about visiting some concert in England.

Thanks for the info....
So, I went over to the site WhosSampled,
and listened to many of the Covers of Solitaire....
Firstly, of course, Karen's vocals are far and away the best,
and, had the original lyric not been altered (as in Sedaka's version),
I really believe the Carpenters' Single-arranged-Solitaire would have charted far higher.
The original lyric might have pushed the single over the top.
Karen's voice certainly does !
My two cents.
