Help with TJB Band music

    Greetings;
I recently came into possession of book(s) for band that was published by Hansen Publications for band called "Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Band Book"
Arranged by Herb Alpert, Complied and edited for band by Ed McLin and Paul Yoder.

It includes "Bean Bag" "Blue Sunday", "Brasilia", "Cinco De Mayo", "Crawfish","Flamingo","Freckles","Freight Train Joe","In a Little Spanish Town","It Was a Very Good Year","Lonely Bull","Magic Trumpet","Mexican Road Race","Mexican Shuffle","Plucky","So What's New?","Spanish Flea","Taste of Honey","Tijuana Taxi","Wall Street Rag", and "Whipped Cream". The arrangement is almost dead on with the recordings, with a few minor changes made to fit the band setting.

It's a "mini" book, obviously for marching or pep band. It is an almost complete set ,(including Flutes, 1st and 2nd Clarinets, 1st and 2nd Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, 1st and 2nd trumpets,1st and 2nd trombones, baritone, basses and drums) however it is missing the horn book.
I've tried to find Hansen on the internet with no luck. Can anyone here assist me in locating the missing book, IF it's still in print?

    Thanks

I'm not exactly sure about the specific book(s) you have according to your description, because I have never seen that particular title or anything with parts for all those particular instruments. However, for some unknown reason, the name Paul Yoder rings a very faint "bell."

Hansen Publishing did publish Tijuana Brass combo books back in the 1960s which were for two trumpets, trombone, and rhythm accompaniment. Those books were specifically designed for a band or combo group with the same or very similar instrumentation as the Tijuana Brass. Many of the songs that were on albums from Lonely Bull to Sounds Like Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass were included in those books. Those books were available to be purchased before any of the later albums were released; thus Sounds Like was the last album to have any songs represented in those books. However, those particular books have been out of print for many years.

If my memory is correct, there was another publishing company called Key-Pops, that published some Tijuana Brass music also.

I used to have a set of those books many, many years ago. They had been purchased from a local music store back in the 1960s when the Tijuana Brass was an active big name in popular music, and the hits of the times were heard on Top 40 radio. I also have looked for them with no success, since the books I had at one time have been lost for many years, and I would like to be able to replace them.

I do not believe Hansen is in business any longer, or perhaps that company has been merged or bought out and is no longer independently doing business.

The only thing I know to possibly find such printed music is eBay or some other means of locating a private seller who might be offering them for sale.

I actually found a source for the books. They are out of print, and not available otherwise, but the Chatfield Brass Band Lending Library has a vast collection of band music and happened to have these books. Since they are out of print, and the copyright expired, copies are allowed.

Unless I am incorrect in my search efforts...

I took a look at the website for the Chatfield Brass Band Lending Library, and found 14 Herb Alpert related entries.

Although there are a couple of sources for what appear to be music for full concert band, none of those entries are the combo books that I referenced in my post above.

I remember those combo books and their publishers well, and would recognize them quickly.

I have the set of books (I bought them when I first started teaching in the late 60's), but my set is incomplete now too. I do have the french horn book, but I am missing a 1st trumpet part as well as some of the pages from various other books. These were great arrangements and I would love to have all the parts once again. Let me know if you get this and maybe we can "complete both our sets".

    Sincerely,
