Just read an interesting tidbit on the "This Week In Music History" website about how the early Bruce Springsteen band opened for Humble Pie in 1971 Peter Frampton was so impressed with Springsteen that he mentioned he could get him an audition at A&M, but apparently Springsteen's manager dismissed that idea.

also this week, The Bruce Springsteen Band opens for UK rockers Humble Pie at New Jersey’s Sunshine Inn…Humble Pie guitarist Peter Frampton is impressed and proposes Springsteen open for the British band on their continuing U.S. tour…he also says he can help get Bruce an audition with their label, A&M…inexplicably Springsteen’s manager Tinker West blows off both offers on the spot…

Strange choice given that Springsteen didn't sign with Columbia until a year later...

Springsteen was "discovered" by the legendary, *GREAT* A&R maven John Hammond (who'd been with COLUMBIA since the '40s). So, it seemed unlikely that a guy who was being packaged as "the next Dylan" was gonna take up on the West Coast(?).
