min.us :: Easy (and Free) Image Gallery and File Sharing Site

I discovered this site several months ago when it was new. It worked well but did not have many features. Today it has developed into a very simple site that lets you share images and other types of files, with just enough additional features (captioning photos, for example) to make it useful. Your uploads can be public or private (where they are only accessible if you share the link...IOW, they are not searchable via the min.us system search).

You can use it without an account, but if you create a free account, you can upload files up to 50MB in size, and it makes it easier for you to keep track of what you've uploaded. There are few limits in place, so you essentially can do a lot with it.

What is different is that you can simply drag and drop the files from a window on your computer right into a browser window. It does not use Flash, but you do need a modern browser version for it to work, as it supports the new HTML5 specification. (Chrome and Firefox for sure, and I think IE8 or IE9 can support it also, as can Safari.)

Images can easily be shared via a short link, or it will even give you embed code so you can share an image within a forum post on most forums that use the "IMG" tag.

You can find it here: http://min.us

Keep in mind that min.us also works great for sharing MP3 files. There is no way to "embed" those in a post here, but linking to your MP3 file should take you to the min.us site to play back the file in a player embedded on their site. Very easy!

File sharing sites have really taken a big hit with all the bills the were passed and shelved. I mean, it is something that people have been so used to already and surely, it would not help that they have limited the access to what you have personally uploaded.

Though there are still a lot of other options that you could go with but there are already being tracked I suppose.
