Here I am again, making another plug for Melissa Manchester, my other favorite female singer (Homepage ). As I've mentioned, I have had the pleasure of seeing her in concert a few times, starting in 1976 but continuing to 2017. In 2015 and 2017, she held a meet-and-greet after her concerts, so I got to meet her and have a photograph taken with her; she also graciously signed an album or CD! She was absolutely kind and still puts on a great show!

Her self-produced (and crowd-funded) 2015 CD You Gotta Love the Life was a jazz-influenced, critically well-received work. She just released another CD, The Fellas, a bookend to her 1989 Tribute (female standards). Also just released is Through the Eyes of Love: The Complete Arista 7" Singles, a 2 CD set!

Even if all you remember of Melissa is "Midnight Blue," "Don't Cry out Loud," "Through the Eyes of Love," and/or "You Should Hear How She Talks About You," she is indeed a versatile singer, and I am thrilled she is still recording. :)

  2. Not sure if there is a separate post but has anyone seen Debby Boone this year in concert doing her Debby Boone sings Karen Carpenter tour? it seems it was mostly in the far east such places as Cebu.

One of the most soulful singers I've ever heard. I must have worn out my vinyl "Melissa" album back in the day. Just made you feel her lyrics very deeply.

    Hi song4u!

Again, thank you for creating this thread! Look at its longevity and interest! It's nice to chat with you again about Melissa! As you know, there are other Melissa fans here as well (including @Murray). My "Melissa" album got the same workout as yours did. To me, every song on there is terrific. I can say that about only a few... When I saw Melissa at EPCOT several years ago, a stage hand (I assume) graciously took some albums/CDs backstage for Melissa to sign. So my worn-out "Melissa" album has a new feature: an autograph, "Love to you. Melissa Manchester." I think that's her typical phrase for autographs, and it's a great message.

James, I envy you... not only because you have an autographed "Melissa" album, but that you got to see her perform in person! :) I guess she's never had enough fans in my part of Canada to make a tour here viable.

Thanks for the head's up on her new album, "The Fellas". I'll have to add it to my next Amazon order.

Thank you for your comments, Murray! And you are most welcome for the heads-up.

I know she has done some touring in the last few years (2013 to present), but, as you suggest, primarily in the US. Before that there was a touring drought. I can tell you that in July 2016 she performed at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls (Canada); I was in Niagara Falls a month earlier and saw the prominent marquee advertising her concert.

There was also a long recording drought, but then she released You Gotta Love the Life in 2015 and now The Fellas. I should point out that The Fellas features 8 songs. She does well with this genre and seems to love performing such songs. I got a preview in the concert earlier this year.

I definitely like The Fellas, but I find You Gotta Love the Life (14 songs) quite enjoyable and filled with some terrific collaborations, including Dionne Warwick and Al Jarreau. I can often tell when I really love a CD (album): it's hard for me to pick a favorite song, or my favorite song can deviate. And that was the case here.

Nice chatting with you about Melissa here as well!

When she sang "I don't want to hear it anymore" she sounded like she was really feeling it. Very emotional.

While not a fan of the song, I'll admit Karen's awesome vocalizations are swaying me....

Just got home from the Olivia Newton - John, Beth Nielsen Chapman & Amy Sky "Liv On" tour at the Midland Center For The Arts in Midland, Michigan. They played 10 of the 11 tracks from the "Liv On" CD except the song "There's Still My Joy" which is the last track on the CD. Olivia sang "I Honestly Love You" while Beth did the song that she wrote for Faith Hill in 1999 called "This Kiss" & Amy did the song "Phoneminal Woman". There was no meet & greet but they talked to the audience about cancer research & other things in a 95 minute set. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

I forgot to mention that all 3 did the Pharell Williams song "Happy" with a melody of songs like "Put On A Happy Face" & the remake of The Turtles "Happy Together". I almost thought they did The Partridge Family 1971 song "Come On, Get Happy" but they did not. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

Andrea Begley, winner of The Voice 2013 in the UK. Good album. Shame she hasn't had more success really.

@AM Matt, I am thrilled that you had the opportunity to enjoy this concert! As I mentioned earlier in this thread (post #495), Liv On is fantastic all the way through. I am envious that you attended a concert where the artists performed 10 of the 11 outstanding tracks. What makes your post even more enjoyable is that Olivia is touring again! I hadn't known this previously, so thank you for that.
