OK, everybody. Forgive me, but I've been wanting to do this for over 20 years. When I was a kid in the '80s (yep, I was born in 1968) I was the only kid on the block who even knew who Herb Alpert was, much less the only one who would pay any attention to the A&M label! Fast forward to the next millenium, where this site truly is, for me, a dream come true. At 39 years old, I'd like to think that I'm the "kid" on this block (or should I say this "CORNER" :D !!)
After all this time I don't recall ever seeing anyone's post of their favorite A&M albums, regardless of artist/group/genre/year, etc. I'm probably opening a can of worms here, but I'd be interested to know how many out there have some of the later A&M releases as well as the early ones.
I know some of you will probably be wondering if I'm absolutely nuts, and maybe I am. But putting all biases aside, these truly are my most-listened-to A&M albums. Oh well, here goes!

OK, everybody... I'm waiting for YOUR lists!

I could swear we've done this before, but whatever...it's fun to make another list. I think it'd be easier to come up with a list if I restrict myself to one or two albums per artist, so here goes. Also leaving out Greatest Hits type albums.

Herb Alpert: GOING PLACES, WARM

Sergio Mendes: (this is the tough one) STILLNESS, EQUINOX

Carpenters: A SONG FOR YOU, CLOSE TO YOU

Burt Bacharach: BURT BACHARACH, WOMAN

Sandpipers: COME SATURDAY MORNING

Cat Stevens: TEASER AND THE FIRECAT, TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN

The Police: SYNCHRONICITY

Quincy Jones: THE DUDE

Pablo Cruise: PABLO CRUISE

Styx: CRYSTAL BALL, THE GRAND ILLUSION

Lani Hall: SUN DOWN LADY, HELLO IT'S ME

Disclaimer: This list is being done from memory at work. If I could look at my records and CDs I'm sure I'd add a few!

I decided to do this the hard way. I tried to keep it to 12, and put them in order. The final order surprised me, but when I think of how much I enjoy and listen to each lp, here's how it came out....

1 SRO / Herb Alpert & TJB
2 WE AND THE SEA / Tamba 4
3 FOOL ON THE HILL / Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
4 DOWN HERE ON THE GROUND / Wes Montgomery
5 GLORY OF LOVE / Herbie Mann
6 SOUNDS LIKE / Herb Alpert & TJB
7 SMALL CIRCLE OF FRIENDS / Roger Nichols
8 EQUINOX / Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
9 BAJA MARIMBA BAND (first lp)
10 HEADS UP / Baja Marimba Band
11 LOOK AROUND / Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
12 TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN / Cat Stevens

Just missing were Nat Adderley's 1st, Phil Ochs 1st, Herb's Ninth, Teaser (Cat), Road Song (Wes), Brasil 66's 1st.

Sorry Claudine... there's just no room at the top.

It's to hard to pick a favorite, so, I’m going to keep this real simple, I’ll just list my first A&M recording. I’ve had it over the years in Vinyl, 8-track, cassette and CD. Rock & Roll, baby! That’s what this album is all about.

Humble Pie – Rockin’ The Fillmore

I've still got and still listen to it.

CLUDINE LONGET

HERB ALPERT (+/- TjB)

EMMITT RHDES/MERRY•GO•ROUND

And of course, at least the First-Eighteen A&M/CTi albums and whatever LP's emerged by those "First Artists" later on in the series...

The list above is also in no particular order, either... (Hope I have included everybody!)
