Private Message Pop-up?

Back in the old days, I used to get a little pop-up window telling me I had a Private Message and ask me if I wanted to open up that function. But lately, that seems to have gone away - and if I don't happen to look up at the small header options, I won't notice the "x New Message(s)" reminder.

It seems to me that this function "broke" maybe around the time of IE 8 (?). I know it used to work. Nowadays I'm using Chrome most of the time, and it still doesn't work. Is there a quick fix for this in the innards of the software? I'm betting most users have updated their browsers sometime in the last couple of years.

I never have seen that, as I recall. I always just get an email telling me I have a message. (Maybe it's because I always use the link in the email to get to the Corner for the message......if I was already in the Corner I might see the popup?)

Yeah, I get the email too - but sometimes go straight to the Forum rather than open email.

I recall the old days when I'd be on the Corner and a pop-up would appear. Or, on the occasion of going TO the Forum, if a PM was waiting, I'd get the pop-up as the Corner was loading.

A couple of months ago I received an e-mail stating that I had a PM, but when I clicked on the link it just said that the message was not found. Gremlins must've been loose that day...

I used to get the pop up but it stopped for me as well. And it stopped long before IE7 (which I reluctantly had to allow at my last computer servicing). Still haven't seen anything about the alternatives to the WINTEL way of doing things that appeals to me. My attempts at trying stuff like LINUX or Chrome meets with annoyingly bothersome pop-ups that ask me to do things I don't feel comfortable enough to do or just plain can't understand. Or worse, I lose functionality that I prefer... And IE7 does plenty I hate as well, like those annoying tabs! I prefer a separate window for each site I'm visiting -- when I'm doing several non-computer projects at the same time I certainly don't keep them in a single stack, nor would I want to.

...and, yes, if you're wondering, the only time any program is run in full screen is when I'm watching a DVD on my computer. I think of all the open IE, word, photoshop, etc boxes on my computer desk top the same way I'd consider my story, my paste up an my music compositions as separate sheets of paper on my real desk top. Better stop here before I get accused of being a "Winer."

Just an FYI, that you're probably aware of, but I'll mention it anyway - you don't HAVE to use the tabs in modern browsers so equipped. You can open as many instances of the browser as you wish, all in different windows.

I tend to only use about two or three tabs at most in any browsing session. After that, it just seems like overkill. I'm used to the old days of one window-one site too, and usually only pay attention to one site at a time. Two or three sites at once are useful if copying information from one to the other.
