Very sad news, he was the man who arranged the complex acrobatic vocals for Karen Carpenter's solo album and wrote two of the songs Karen recorded: Lovelines and If We Try. Temperton also penned Off The Wall and Rock With You and submitted them to Karen, who rejected them as being "too funky". They were later pitched to Michael Jackson and included on the Off The Wall album.

Rod Temperton is known more for his work penning many hit songs for popular artists such as Michael Jackson, George Benson, The Brothers Johnson, Patti Austin, Donna Summer, Michael McDonald, Lionel Richie and many others, and was also part of the group Heatwave, penning some of their biggest hits. His songs appeared on many albums produced by Quincy Jones.

He also wrote other favorite hits such as "Baby come to me," by Patti Austin and James Ingram. Sweet Freedom by Michael Mcdonald. And he even jazz Keyboardist Bob James did a few Rod Temperton songs on his 1981 release "Sign of the Times" a tragic loss of a truly talented songwriter.composer He will be missed but "His Songs will surely Live On.
