SOTW: Bell & James, "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)" SP-12012

Discussion in '12-inch Singles/EPs/Remixes' started by Rudy, Jun 5, 2011.

Jump in the ride...it's Friday night!

Leroy Bell is the nephew of famed Philly producer Thom Bell. Leroy's friend Casey James made up the duo, and for many, they are a one-hit wonder with this eternally popular dance cut, "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)". At 7:03, it clocks in longer than the album version, an extended cut with no additional remixing done (that I can tell). This one was popular on radio back when first released, and makes frequent appearances on compilations, even in its extended form.

This was one of the first four 12" singles I ever bought, and I can see why it remains a favorite today. It has an irresistible groove, and even the lyrics are inspirational in a "5:00pm-Friday-quittin'-time" sort of way. :D

Mine came in one of A&M's generic disco jackets, with the standard A&M label:
