I don't know anything about that disc, but I have to mention that I FINALLY got around to including two Juan Oskar Christmas tunes on my annual personal-listening Christmas music disc.

Usually every year I make up a WMA disc with all of my favorite Christmas music in a random rotation so I can avoid the all-Christmas radio stations which always seem to find the most grating versions of songs by people like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. This way, I control the programming. And every year I kept kicking myself for forgetting to put the Juan Oskar tunes in the rotation. This year I remembered!

  2. Thanks Harry. That's very cool to know. Now I'm curious, which tunes. J

    It's a RIP-OFF copy of Herb's music - arranged almost identically!
  4. I wouldn't mind having the backtracks/karaoke tracks to the TJB songs because once in a while on a gig, if there's another trumpet player we can do a couple of his tunes. If I were able to buy them it would save me a lot of time. Later...J

I don't see the point in this thing. First of all, I have low opinions of karoake and those who do that crap. Secondly, what's the purpose of having these background tracks and someone playing the melody? You can just play along with Herb's recordings and accomplish the same thing - and save a few bucks.

I wouldn't mind if some of these jazz aid studies, such as Jamey Aebersold's company, doing a Herb feature. They would do it with some class, using a real rhythm section and opening up the tunes for soloing. But this thing on Amazon is hokey, to say the least.
  6. El Capitan agrees with my little brother Robin. He has no use for 'play alongs' and karaoke stuff. I was thinking that maybe the tracks on Amazon had a horn elimination on one side so we could do our own thing. Now if the trumpets are blowing through both tracks, that would be ridicules. A real karaoke CD isn't going to have the singer or melody going at da same time and I don't think Aebersold would have anything to do with TJB tracks.

:wiggle:What would be cool is if Mr. Alpert released the backtracks to some of his TJB stuff as karaoke for some of us trumpet players to have fun with. :goodie: Maynard Ferguson has one out. I know...I'm crazy. later...Jay

(I kept forgetting to answer you!) The two tracks on ¡Baile Buffet!, "Christmas Is For Grownups Too" and "Chispas de Christmas". Those are the only two Christmas tracks I have by Juan Oskar - I never managed to get the full Christmas album.

As for karaoke tracks, with most of the TjB stuff, you can pretty much do-it-yourself. In most cases the trumpet tracks are in the center of the stereo and can be eliminated with the out-of-phase trick. Some of the Lonely Bull album doesn't work too well. Neither do the songs, "Mexican Shuffle" (since it's basically mono) and "Whipped Cream" (since it features the trumpet leads on the two stereo channels).

  9. That "Memories of Madrid" is great. I have no idea how to do the "Out of phase" but I'll look it up. How can I download your mp3 of "M of Madrid"? I'd love to do it on the piano. By the way Harry, email me an address and I'll send out my Xmas CD to you. Later.............Jay

I loaded the info to your .biz page.

There should be a download link on that page.

Shoot me a private message here if there are any others you'd want done...it only takes a minute or so per file to do the job in the software I used. The only reason it works so well is because the three-track recording stuck the bass and drums in one channel, and the guitar and piano in the other; the center information mostly cancels out.

Karaoke can be fun in the right hands. My buddy Craig, who's a musician/songwriter, can take on anyone doing "Rapper's Delight" and get all the words correct (and without a prompter :D ). The ones I don't like are the drunks at the local watering hole, warbling "Freebird" to a cheesy backing CD...

    Hi Folks!

Since many years I enjoy reading all your comments regarding Herb Alpert & TJB.
Today I would like to contribute to this subject. "Memories of Madrid" is also one of my favourite songs and one I used to play along in the past. After downloading this tune, I will add my version of two trumpets. Hope it works.

Regarding karaoke versions of Herb I found this website

The first tune is wellknown. But what about the others? Did I miss a record or are these some more lost treasures? I'm confused. May be some of you experts know more. Looking forward to read your comments.

    Regards

These are NOT Herb Alpert tunes. Apparently someone thinks that they are or sound like Herb's style.
