A portion a Zola Taylor's life was documented in the movie "Why Do Fools Fall In Love." She was portrayed in the film by Halle Berry.

According to the film, she had an on-again, off-again affair with Frankie Lymon for several years in the 50s and 60s. She claimed that they had been married but was not able to prove it. She was involved in a lawsuit over royalties with two other women also claiming to be Frankie's widow. It's quite a fascinating story and a pretty good movie.

The movie also implies that Zola was fired from the Platters (after 10 years!) because she had been ill with pneumonia and missed a few performances. If that's true (and not just artistic license for the sake of the script) then that really sucks! Hopefully, she was at least taken care of by the royalties from the years she was with them.
