Carpenters rare video clips

Thank you! So have you seen the whole interview? Is there a longer video out there?

I’ve only ever seen the clip used in the segment aired the day of Karen’s funeral. I’m sure that original segment from 1981 exists in their archives.

there are so many clips that have been on youtube or somewhere else that now been removed. Yesterday I saw screenshots of the carpenters presenting (i think) the grammy awards so the video has been somewhere. It´s just like the carpenters presenting Helen Reddy a grammy in 1977 and the carpenters presenting Bette Midler a grammy. Does somebody know where I still can find these cool videos?
here is a link to the photos taken on that day + the screenshots: karen green dress (this is my site)
kind regards,
Chris Bruinsma

Where is the performance from does anyone know.
It's from the Bob Hope show. Same day as they performed A Song For You. In this documentary there are many Carpenters clips with very good quality spread throughout, intertwined with ABBA and Bee Jees stuff. It's a shame that my German is not very good..
I will try to post the time of the clips where they appear because there really are a lot of hidden treasures!

Hi Chris,
Do you have the complete interview from Swap Shop in 1981? I've only ever seen a 50 second clip of it...

Do you have the complete interview from Swap Shop in 1981?
Hello Billy!
no sadly enough no. do you know on which channel swap shop was broadcasted? maybe it is in the archives from that channel, i do think they still have that in their archives because there is also archived material from abba on the swap shop in 1978 on youtube.
with kind regards,
Chris Bruinsma

Im really hoping that there is a good quality version of their specials does anyone know
yes I really hope Richard release them in good quality someday
the only known very good quality clips i know of their specials are here:

and little snippets in the documentary´s
there are many copys of the tv special on youtube, these are the "best" quality out there,
part 1 was deleted from youtube but here it is,
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Rx411t7zn?from=search&seid=13412126767674661048
it is in parts but it is better quality than the one "richard Carpenter"(that's a channel name) posted

To date Richard has not released the specials in their entirety. However the DVD’s for Interpretations, Close To You & Christmas Memories contain individual songs from the original video masters (and in the case of Without A Song it looks like the seperate video layers were re-edited in the 90’s to work on the Interpretations DVD. But one word of warning, all the audio has been replaced. Instead of using the original mono tracks, Richard has synched up stereo versions.

Other appearances that are not owned by Richard, have been released on DVD. Their Ed Sullivan Show appearance was released on a “Best of” disc in the early 200’s. There’s also the Perry Como Christmas ShowDVD (Richard got permission to use some videos from this for the Christmas Memories DVD, however on CM he removed the original mono audio and put in stereo versions, so on CM the video for SCICTT is from the Perry Como special, but it’s been synched to the 1984 AOFC mix, whereas the PCCS DVD has the original 1974 (scarce) mono mix of SCICTT).[/i][/I]

I don’t think that’s the case with that particular song. The video is cleverly paused right before it would have shifted to the group part of the song in the original special.

That's something that really bugs me! It makes no sense that Richard didn't use the original 1974 mix on the Christmas Memories DVD. It's not like it doesn't exist in stereo, and in good quality, as it appears on the Complete Singles CD set. My problem with the use of the 1984 mix, is that the saxophone solo was replaced with an entirely different solo, played by a different musician. On the Christmas Memories DVD, we see Bob Messenger playing his original solo, but we are actually hearing John Phillips new solo. If you watch Bob closely, his fingering on the sax doesn't match the notes that are being played - of course they can't! For someone who is legendary for being a perfectionist, I wonder why Richard thought this was a good idea?

That reminds me of the “official” promo of We’ve Only Just Begun from the Bob Hope show in 1973. What we see is the group performing to playback of the 1970 audio, including Cubby O’Brien playing along to Hal Blaine’s original drum track. However in all the video/DVD releases of the promo, the original audio has been replaced with the 1985 remix (which features Hal’s completely re-recorded drum part), so the drum fills Cubby is playing on screen don’t remotely match what we’re hearing.
