Thanks for that, it's funny but I'd never noticed it before, heard it on the 1984 set of Yesterday Once More CD and thought to check other album versions and it was there too, what I did also notice was in the Solitaire version on the same 84 set, it sounds at certain parts like dropout from the tape, other versions of the same song aren't like that.
 
I believe that's an intentional percussive sound in a syncopated beat.

It's the sound of the kick drum and electric bass accenting the "push" beat/syncopation as Harry mentions. Joe Osborn was famous for using a pick when playing the Fender Jazz, and often times he could get it to 'click', particularly when locking in with the kick drum.
 
While we're on the subject of noises heard in their songs, there's always that dainty squeak sound heard on the NOW song, I've always put it down to a normal sound one hears occasionally when plucking a guitar string.
 
Do we know who makes that yelping hyena sound that comes near the end? Doug Strawn? I think I knew who it was but can’t remember.
