"50": New Herb Alpert album in September

50 albums--he's almost halfway to catching up to Tito Puente. 😁

I would say it's a placeholder for whatever album he puts out, but on the other hand the cover does look like "finished" cover art. I guess we'll find out if/when it gets released. I'm not holding my breath (or looking for teasers) until I see it available for sale.

Maybe it'll be a double-CD set with a song from each of his albums (plus one new one). Although with the amount of recording he's been doing lately, a whole new album wouldn't be a surprise!

I don't know - he did just put out that HERB ALPERT IS... box set, so doing something similar seems too repetitive. (I don't think they've sold all the box sets yet, did they?)

I don't follow the CD version, but there are still plenty of vinyl sets available. Problem is, they were priced way too expensive. Last year, I saw one discounted to $150, new. And that one didn't sell right away either.

If it were like the other "special edition" box sets out there, where it would have had unreleased studio tracks, B-sides and live recordings, it would have sold much better.

Interesting that the picture on that Discography page for ANYTHING GOES is the withdrawn cover that we saw in advance of the album's release.

This is the version that came out officially on both US and Japanese CDs.

👆 I love the withdrawn cover 💛

The tour is on break right now. It picks back up in July. During the show that I went to a couple of weeks ago, Herb did Q&A's constantly throughout his show. I was so awestricken my mind was mush. If I had presence of mind, I would have asked about the next album. For anyone that has tickets, be prepared to be spontaneous when Herb asks if there are any thoughts or questions.

I like it better than the official one!

It's been 15 years since I saw him and IIRC, he only had one brief Q&A session during the show that I remember. But I can understand opening up to more questions later in his career as he's doing now. Many have been fans for decades but haven't had an opportunity online, like we have here, to share so much information.

We saw one of the earliest of his later-era concerts up in New York at Joe's Pub back in May of 2008. In that show there was next to nothing of the TjB-era music. Lani did a B66 number or two, but it was mostly what's in the ANYTHING GOES album. In fact, some of that may have come from our show.

A year and a half later, we saw his show again in Philadelphia. As I recall it had been postponed from the spring for some reason, and occurred as the Yankees and Phillies were playing the World Series in October. During that show, he opened things up for questions and played only "A Taste Of Honey" from the old days and maybe a bit of "Rise".

At the show we saw in Seattle, I was quite surprised at how much TJB and Brasil '66 music they played. Herb seems to have come to terms with the fact that he and Lani really did have a lot of great records back in the day and they deserve not to be forgotten.

I have seen Herb & Lani numerous times over the last years, and the last time was in London at Ronnie Scott's almost exactly a year ago. That was by far the most "historic" concert I have seen with them. They played lots of TJB and Brasil 66 stuff, including the "TIK TOK-hit" "Ladyfingers", and Herb even took requests and played a very improvised version of "A Banda" amongst others. It is indeed exciting with the new album!

- greetings from the north -

I'm surprised he didn't figure out a way to do "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." Considering his albums are sorta love notes to Lani these days, I guess it wouldn't really fit the theme! :)

The official cover is better from the photography "rule" that one person faces forward while the other is sideways.
