A&M Singles Box Set - A&M HISTORY 100*

One guess is that they'll put the singles in chronological order.

I see that CD Japan is now pushing the date of this release farther away to December 19th.

Ten whole years ago, I regretted not being able to get this briefly market set from Japan. It was one of those "buy it now, or you'll never see it again" releases, and it indeed took me a whole decade to track one down. The early track list posted here in this old thread was at least out of order, and at most totally wrong. Anyway, my set arrived today and I thought I'd set the record straight as to just what was on this briefest of brief releases.

The box set is comprised of five CDs, each with 20 songs on it. It's far from perfect, but it does have a decent representative of some single recordings from the label during the 60s and 70s. Herb Alpert is of course among the missing as this was a 2007 project and he was licensing his stuff to Shout! at that point in time.

There are quite a few titles on the list I've never been familiar with but it appears to be a fair good sized collection sadly the price of this would be way above my pay grade not to mention Impossible to find

Killing a little time this morning, I just compared the actual track list of A&M HISTORY 100 with the old translated list on the first page of this thread and came away with the following:

- Around 54 of the tracks listed on the translated list actually made their way to the compilation as released.
- some artists listed in the translated list are not represented at all: Peter Frampton, Shawn Phillips, Cat Stevens, Supertramp, Humble Pie, Paul Williams, Quincy Jones, Blue Haze, Joe Cocker and Phil Ochs. My guess is that these artists didn't want to license their tracks for this compilation.

Again it's all about Licensing and Money ( Not necessarily in that order)
