I was thinking about this the other day. Some songs I've heard a zillion times that when I hear it on a radio or it's on a CD I'm listening to I'll just skip over it ("Spanish Flea", for example). But there are songs that I never get tired of no matter how many times I hear it. What songs affect you in that way?

For starters I have these:

Herb Alpert/TJB: Memories Of Madrid, Cantina Blue

The Police: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic

Gerry Mulligan: K-4 Pacific

Sergio Mendes/Brasil '66: Agua De Beber, The Frog

Baja Marimba Band: Baja Nova

John Hiatt: Slow Turning

Sonny Fortune: Seeing Beyond The Obvious

Good topic and list.

These are all favorites that never seem to get "old". They sound fresh to me every time I hear them, always want to turn them up, and never want to skip them.

Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass: "Brasilia" (LP version), "Casino Royale", "The Sea Is My Soil", and "Wade In The Water"

Herb Alpert (solo): "Jump Street (Brighton Daze Mix)", "Noche de Amor", "1980", "Fandango" and "Behind The Rain"

Julius Wechter & The Baja Marimba Band: "Flyin' High" and "I Don't Want To Walk Without You"

Burt Bacharach: "I Say A Little Prayer", "Promises, Promises", and "South American Getaway"

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66/'77: "Like A Lover", "For Me", "Pretty World", "Gone Forever", "Iemanja" and "Scarborough Fair"

Carpenters: "Ticket To Ride", "Only Yesterday", "Someday" and "Let Me Be The One"

Lani Hall: "O Samba da Minha Terra", "Adios Tristeza", "We Could Be Flying", and "Sun Down"

Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends: "Love So Fine"

I'm sure there are many more, but these come to mind first.

Roger Nicols & The Small Circle Of Friends 'Kinda Wasted W/o You'

Chris Montez 'A Taste Of Honey'

Peter Frampton 'I'm In You'

Peter Frampton 'Do You Feel Like I Do?'

Herb Alpert & TjB 'To Wait For Love'

Herb Alpert & TjB 'Sandbox'

Herb Alpert '1980'

Herb Alpert 'Rise'

More? --Well, there's Herb Alpert & TjB 'More', but I'll think of...--:uhhuh:

WOW! SOMEBODY actually has favorites of Herb's solo work! I sometimes get the feeling that a lot of Cornerites just tolerate the 80s Alpert material simply because it's Herb Alpert, and that if it were anybody else, they'd pretty much write it off. Maybe I am mistaken, but that's the impression.

...and those are just the ones I "NEVER get tired of"!

Thanks for starting this thread. I was soooooo bored!

Herb Alpert and the TJB there are plenty I've listened to since childhood and never get tired of: Marjorine, The Sea is My Soil, Slick, Treasure of San Miguel, Love So Fine, Bud and on and on... (I realize these aren't radio tunes but even if they were on the radio I'd never tire of them).

Cat Stevens doesn't seem to be a big favourite around here, but how many times have we heard "Wild World" on the radio and it's always a pleasure.

"Cry Me a River" was the first Joe Cocker song I heard and it still gets me going.

While not a huge Supertramp fan, Goodbye Stranger I never get tired of hearing on the radio.

How about Procul Harum, Conquistador? A real durable tune that.

Joe Jackson: Breaking Us in Two

Free: Alright Now

I've only had the Roger Nichols SCF album for a few years so can't really comment, although Love's So Fine I can't see wearing out.

Everything by Bryan Adams and Peter Frampton one can tire of. Sorry.

I completely forgot about Marjorine. The clarinet solo is one of the most 'different' arrangements on any Herb lp.
Also, Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out was another great gem, if you're into the 80s...

Too many to choose from! I'll set my limits at one song per artist, no "single-only" releases and only 20 tunes...
Herb Alpert & TJB: "Treasure of San Miguel"
Herb Alpert & Hugh Masekela: "Ring Bell"
Herb Alpert: "Aranjuez"
Lani Hall (& Herb Alpert): "Come What May"
(Yes, I used a "loophole" to get four Herb songs on my list)
Brasil '66: "Pretty World"
Baja Marimba Band: "Georgy Girl"
Phil Ochs: "Cross My Heart"
Chris Montez: "Time After Time"
Claudine Longet: "When A Man Loves A Woman"
Carpenters: "SuperStar"
Captain & Tennille: "Love Will Keep Us Together"
Double: "Captain Of Her Heart"
Supertramp: "It's Raining Again"
Styx: "Babe"
Oingo Boingo: "I'm On The Outside"
Joe Jackson: "Steppin' Out"
Squeeze: "Another Nail For My Heart"
Split Enz: "I Hope I Never"
Police: "Every Breath You Take"
Bryan Adams: "Cuts Like A Knife"

And I'll allow myself a bonus cut of one tune from the "post-Herb & Jerry" era...
Vanessa Carlton: "Thousand Miles"

Some others I never get tired of:

Tamba 4 - O Morro, San Salvador

Wes Montgomery - Willow Weep For Me, The Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener
