I hesitate to create a new thread, as this podcast may have been previously posted,
but, here is a nice 2003 interview with Richard Carpenter by Richard Niles. It is informative and new to my ears.
Niles also has written a book entitled: The Invisible Artist, Arrangers in Popular Music 1950-2000 (includes Richard Carpenter).

That was a real treat to hear! Thanks, Gary. Richard was obviously enjoying himself. I could listen to him tell stories at the piano forever.
 
Another that has probably showed up on the forum previously and remaining
with the theme of arranging, here is another interesting show featuring Richard Carpenter,
as he "...chooses the tracks of my years, 2019" :
