I really love this album. And I probably wouldn't've bought it if I hadn't seen Mr. Adams when Alpert/Masekela played the Roxy. That, incidentally , was the first concert I'd ever attended (at the ripe age of 17).

I also bought this for the Alpert/Masekela connection. It's really a good album. Nice and funky without going the disco route. Great instrumental track on "Sugar Cane". Definitely worth looking for!

I guess I should've said, "I love, love, love, love, love, love, love this album!"

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really expected more & much better GUITAR WORK from this album! C'mon, 'AA' is on the back cover w/ Jazz Guitar & Amp and all I seem to hear is rather minimalist funk, excessive rhythm & meandering production & a mild Disco escape... (Hmmmmm...what were he & Herb really thinking????)

Maybe I've just heard too much of his better work behind other artists--Nick DeCaro's Italian Graffiti comes to mind: he lays down some better, more effective & delicious grooves...

His earlier albums on Blue Thumb, Home Brew & Midnight Serenade are the same way... A few embellishments like horns, strings & a guitar solo or two, but even there, nothing special...
