I am curious about the Paul Desmond appearance as well as the places that this album was Recorded/Performed at... I'll see if I can find a copy to satisfy my curiosity, 'bout this seemingly tight combo...

This is a very solid set from the masters of cool. They don't seem to have lost a step at all, and everyone seems to have been having a great time playing with each other again. I always get a chuckle on "Three To Get Ready..." when Paul Desmond comes in with a drunken quote from "Auld Lang Syne". They do a swinging version of "St. Louis Blues" to open things up. The most intriguing track is the "African Times Suite", featuring Eugene Wright's bass work. And, of course, there is the obligatory reading of "Take Five". It's not a masterpiece, but this is a great album to have in any collection. 4 strong stars.

There was/is a video on youtube of the quartet in the mid 70's playing Three To Get Ready, and Paul takes a humorous solo. Could that of been the video of the same recording from the album?
