A few months ago, Sergio asked on Facebook what us fans would like to hear from him on his next album. I suggested he record two songs introduced by Carmen Miranda in 1939 (O Que é Que a Baiana Tem) and 1944 (Batuca Nego) to my knowledge, he has not recorded any Miranda songs and I thought it would be a nice tribute from one legend of Brazilian music to another - and O Que é Que a Baiana Tem was written by Dori Caymmi, mutual friend of both Carmen & Sergio. It may mean nothing, but he "Liked" my suggestion.
We'll see!

Batuca Nego is not a well-known Carmen Miranda song, and though I found the lyrics on line a Google translation is a complete mess - Google translates some of the lyrics into offensive racial words.
Hope that is not the case in a better translation. I believe the 'e' in "Nego" has the 'point upward' accent if that makes any difference. Can any Forum members do better than Google? Thanks! Curious if that would make a difference if Sergio were to ever record this.

Ai, ai, ai, ai, ai!
Oi, batuca, batuca, batuca nego!
Oi, Batuca, batuca, batuca nego!
Batuca nego, oi!
Batuca nego, oi!
Batuca nego
Olha esse molejo dos quadris

Machuca nego, oi!
Machuca nego, oi!
Machuca nego
Sei que tem sido bem pra xuxu
Uma cadência de Caxambu
Bate o pandeiro, mira e sorri
Batuca nego, ai!
Machuca nego, oi, ai, ai, ai, ai, ai!

Bato o meu canto e fica o xote
Marchando e vendo como tem
E vendo como tem
E estas curvas de meu corpo molhado
São como um pecado
São como um pecado

Quando sambo até penso que a vida é boa
Que bom ouvir um samba na Gamboa*! (bis)

Batuca nego, oi!
Batuca nego, oi!
Batuca nego
Olha esse molejo de quadris
Machuca nego, oi
Machuca nego, oi
Machuca nego
Sei que tem sido bem pra xuxu
Uma cadência de Caxambu
Bate o pandeiro mira e sorri
Batuca nego, oi
Machuca nego, oi, ai, ai, ai, ai, ai
