This is a neat little album. Concord was putting out these little gems at the time and I tried to gobble them up as much as I could.

Bill Berry is an alumnus of the Duke Ellington band and I had an earlier LP of his called Hello Rev (also on Concord) which was a live big band performance with several other Ellington veterans (Cat Anderson and Britt Woodman, among others). Then I saw this album that not only had Bill Watrous, but ex-TJB members Dave Frishberg and Nick Ceroli (who swings his rear end off on the tunes he's on!). Berry arranged everything and plays some hot cornet. My favorite track is "Royal Garden Blues" with "Avalon" a close second. It's not ground breaking or anything like that, but it's a swinging, solid album throughout. Definitely a good one to look for!
