I don't have this album, but I'm a big fan of Brenda's so go figure! "Waiting For You" got a lot of airplay on the contemporary (later "smooth jazz") station that we had here in NY, CD 101.9. Earl Klugh was the guitar solo on this track, and I see that she had a lot of studio musicians on this album: Greg Philinganes(also Michael Jackson's keyboardist), Jimmy Haslip, Larry Williams, Narada Michael Walden, etc. Also, some of these people worked with Gino Vannelli: the aforementioned Haslip, Maxayne Lewis, Tommy Vicari(who engineered "Powerful People") and also Louis Biancaniello (who co-produced some of "Slow Love" for Vannelli). Also the dependable Luis Conte, who played on a lot of studio sessions.

Also: wasn't Herb Alpert in one of her videos when she was on A&M? I thought I read that somewhere in a brief article in Billboard. As I always like to say: would like to know!

I notice a familiar name of Frank DeCaro listed as one of the coordinator producers I assume it's the same BMB Guitarist Frank DeCaro? Who later became a Music contractor.

I have always wondered if Frank and Nick were related.

This album kind of slipped past me. It has the L.A. session musicians all over it--I will have to grab one of these.

Many people I've spoken with say Frank and Nick were brothers. She-who-shall-not-be-mentioned has told me that's not true. But I'd believe a BMB member over her...

I like the funky groove of "Dinner With Gershwin", a great track to play while driving in the car. But if I had to pick a 'favorite' off of this album... it would have to be "Waiting For You".

If you're a fan of the music of Ivan Lins, check out the tribute album called "A Love Affair". Brenda Russell's contribution is stellar :

Listened to this, via streaming--it's nothing I'll play again soon. All the tunes just sort of run together under the same glossy sheen. Overproduced is how I would put it. A couple of standouts, but I can't say there's anything that engaged me to want to hear it again. It's certainly not bad, but I haven't found much to hook me. I have her guesting on a few albums I own by other artists, and she is much more engaging--she seems like she's buried in all the commotion on this record.

Just my two cents...YMMV, as always. πŸ™‚
