When I was young I really did listen to the radio…
I learnt to sing listening to Karen.
From the age of 2 I sang in such a deep voice my morning told me I sounded weird.
That comment kept me back from achieving what I always wanted to do, play Karen Carpenter on stage.
I’ve had a couple of near misses, one was Stars in Their Eyes family edition, I got in in my 20’s, but the series was cancelled.
I got pencilled in for Starstruck, 2023 but unfortunately was let go.
Im a hypnotherapist specialising in anxiety and yet when it comes to myself and singing, I’m guilty of having it.
I don’t profess to being in anyway as good as Karen, nobody could. However my singing is authentically like hers as she’s the one who ‘taught me.’ I don’t know any other way of singing!
Here is a link to an old youtube of me singing We’ve Only Just Begun I was younger here, and I feel my voice has now matured more into hers.
Should I give up or carry on. I feel sad, I never fulfilled my dream…

I hope I don’t offend anyone.

Welcome to the forum Claire ( I have a sister named Claire) I will say I fulfilled one of my biggest hopes and dreams 28 years ago I struggled with giving up just like you. But I stuck to my guns and ignored the naysayers and doubters and even though they were persistently Very annoying I finally begun my long running Radio program 12 years after deciding I wanted to be a radio DJ Don't Give Up my friend it's only a matter of time and Simply Just Go For it. And by the way I love your rendering of We've only just begun. I do hear similarities between your voice and Karen yet you are also a unique voice in your own right as Herb alpert has always said Don't try to be anyone else find your own voice but that being said there's nothing wrong with doing the occasional Karen Carpenter sound now and then Best wishes to you Claire
