Cher and Barbra had wardrobe attendants fawning all over them. Karen came off the road with a hamper full of soiled laundry to stuff into the Newville Ave washing machine!!

And that is part of the reason I (we) love her. These aspects come through in the singing at the end of the day. Despite how beautiful and technically amazing barbra’s voice is, i can never listen to it . The personality comes through.

I won't say "never" but I will say I rarely listen to her.

Somehow you brought the gambler out in me...
I place Barbra next to Karen and Judy Garland in terms of technicality and reaching you with emotion. I love Streisand’s personality, too.
And let it be known that Streisand always did her wardrobe and makeup. And in the 1970s she barely performed live. A bit of vegas in 1970 and 1971.

I love Barbra's versions of EVERGREEN and LOST INSIDE OF YOU....did Karen ever see Bab's version of A STAR IS BORN?

I heard Karen did a pretty hysterical impersonation of Barbra. Wouldn't that have been simply awesome if she would've performed it at The Grammys?!!

There's no question Barbra is a world-class singer, she is just not my cup of tea...I don't get the chill factor that consistently comes when I listen to Karen Carpenter.

On Randy Schmidt's Newville Avenue Facebook page, there is a posting that is advertising a Boston Symphony Orchestra special that will begin streaming on their website tomorrow at 3pm (BSO.ORG). The special will have highlights from various Boston Pops special guest performers including the Carpenters. It is under the category "Pops" : Boston Pops at Home Heroic Performances.

Have you got the link? I can’t see anything on that page and have checked the website and can’t see it there either.

That was funny....like the dark vomited up
A video streamed with short clip of Carpenters singing Close To You. Did not see Tony Bennett or k.d. lang. This is billed as Part 1, could be more to follow.

I think the last time PBS broadcast the show was around 1990-91? It was very good. I had only seen the 4th of July shows at the Boston Commons venue, outdoors. I didn’t know of a theater or concert hall they used for other shows until I saw that one. Seeing Karen in the light blue formal took my breath away. Beautiful.
