Carpenters songbooks

While visiting my late parents' home in April, I brought back more items that were stored in the basement. Among the many songbooks were these two Carpenters songbooks.

I'd hoped that the Carpenters' first three albums were among the many LPs still stored there, but alas I could not find them. So I think what happened is that my parents' gave me their copies for my birthday, and then I began collecting the subsequent releases on my own. Sadly, those albums fell by the wayside (Goodwill) many moves ago.

They released music books of all their albums right up until A Kind of Hush... After that there was Voice of the Heart, Christmas Portrait (Special Edition) and Love Songs.

I like the books as they have loads of photos, some of which I've never seen anywhere else.

I had one called "Their Greatest Hits" that was red with a black and white photo of the back side photo of Made In America

Wow these look great! Are you happy with the 'Close To You' - 'Ticket To Ride' Piano Book?

I searched for it, and I know what songs appear on it.

Would you recommend this Book to me?

I like it as a Carpenters souvenir from my childhood. But I can barely play piano (and even if I did play, I don't have access to a piano). So, as a resource for playing their music, it's of no real use to me. If you have access to a piano, then you might well enjoy it.

Yeah I just bought the same Ticket To Ride - Close To You Piano Book that you have.

I have the Carpenters Anthology Piano Book from Hal Leonard already, and sadly there's only one song from 'Offering/Ticket To Ride' (this one song being Ticket To Ride)

and only three songs from the 'Close To You' Album (these three being '...Just Begun', I Kept On Loving You', and '...Close To You')

Since the 'Close To You' Album is my favorite, I want to learn more songs from it, now I can because of your piano book!

I also always wanted to learn songs like Eve, Someday, Your Wonderful Parade, and Crescent Noon.

Do you know what company released these three books? Or do you have a link to them? Thanks

I didn't check them all but the early albums up through The Singles appear to have been published by Walter Kane and Sons. These were all smaller sized volumes. With Horizon they became the full size volumes.

The Anthology book that Mark-T referenced above was published by Almo, which belonged to A&M I believe.

I have a two volume set called The Carpenters Complete (It is not!) was published by Columbia Pictures Publications. I saw this on Amazon for $75. Not sure if it was both volumes or just one of the set.

I also have two that were not listed above. There was one published of the TV series. It was largely songs from the first two albums with "Make Your Own Kind of Music" thrown in.

I also have one called Gold. It was also published by Walter Kane and Sons. It is largely songs from the first 3 albums.

The best book (in my opinion) is the brown Anthology published by Hal Leonard. The arrangements are more true to the recordings. "There's a Kind Of Hush" includes the intro and outro that is performed on the record. The arrangement of Sing is pretty awesome (also my opinion). This one is still in print I believe. I would like a second volume in the same spirit as this one. And maybe even a third. All the songs would be great actually.

to anyone who owns any official carpenters songbook- where do you buy them? i looked online and they’re so expensive, so do you buy them at that price or have somewhere else you can get them for, cheaper ??

I got them on eBay, except for rhe Tan album songbook which was gifted to me in 1976. Just save it in a search and keep checking back until you find a good price.

Here is a photo of the Gold songbook.

Christmas Portrait was Published by Columbia Pictures Publications.

All of the folios that went with each album are long out of print. Except for Christmas Portrait. You might find copies on Amazon or ebay. I bought all of mine at the time of their publication.

The brown Anthology is still in print so you should find it at a reasonable price. There are also some other collections available that I saw on Amazon that are still in print. You have to check them depending on what you want. Some are for piano. Some are easy piano. One was for those ezplay keys.

I buy some of my sheet music at Sheet Music Plus. They have the tan album.

You can also buy individual songs that you print out after you purchase them. They are available at Sheet Music Plus and MusicNotes.

I can't edit the above message anymore. I said that Sheet Music Plus has the Tan songbook. I meant to say the Brown Anthology songbook.

I also guess that I do something wrong with my posts. I see that my message scrolls but the others don't. Also, I'm not sure I'm adding the photo correctly either. Mine seems different than the others.

Here is the Anthology referenced above, and some samples of how faithful many of the charts are.

I own this Book, and I'm really happy with it, the only thing that's bad, is that it doesn't include instrumental piano songs like Flat Baroque and Heather.
