Cool! I never really got into the Casino Royale movie before, but I tend to watch DVDs more intently than I do something I tape from the satellite. Already have the soundtrack CD from a few years ago.

P.S. Love Robbie's shades...

Royale has some very funny moments (mostly involving Woody Allen) but overall, it's a horrible film, IMO; one of the messiest, most incomprehensible pieces of work ever to hit the screen. Burt's soundtrack is by far the best thing about it.

(Well, the soundtrack and actress Barbara Bouchet... but mostly the soundtrack. :D)

William: your thoughts on the film sort of echo my first impression of the bits and pieces I've seen of it. As I understand it, Casino Royale actually was one of the original Ian Fleming James Bond novels. I wonder if that novel was as disjointed as the film appears to be.

I've never been a Woody Allen fan, though, which also was a deterrent to my giving it full attention. I do admire Peter Sellers, but from what I remember, he isn't "front and center" all the time like he is in his own feature films.

I'll probably still get this one, though!

Royale was THE first Bond book by Fleming, if I recall correctly, and it bears little or no resemblance to the movie. As far as I know, the only part of the film that is even remotely similar to the book is the "Le Chiffre" subplot with Orson Welles and Peter Sellers. The book centers around that card game.

Woody Allen as "Dr. Noah," Joanna Pettet as "Mata Bond" (love child of James Bond and Mata Hari), Terence Cooper's character... all that silly stuff was invented for the movie.

(Of course, without it we wouldn't have "The Look Of Love" or "Bond Street," so I guess I shouldn't complain TOO much. :))
