CLOSE TO YOU (ODD DATE??)

CARPENTERS-COLLECTOR

Well-Known Member
I took delivery of a 7 inch single from japan a couple of days ago and I noticed something on it which has left me a little confused.
I`m a massive fan obviously and have a large collection, but by the same token, I`m not a geek or anorak about the carpenters and know every detail, but unless I`m missing something, or this is a mis-print, can anyone explain the date on this single please?
`CLOSE TO YOU` dated on the disc as 1962 - that would make Karen 12 years old!!

I think you're not seeing a date, but a matrix number or catalog number of some type. Many singles had such a number, and they often incremented by one to denote the two sides.

If that’s the case, it looks yet again as though I Kept On Loving You was originally intended for side one, because it’s labelled 1961 as opposed to 1962.
