Hi Everyone-

Using Chris May and Mike Cidoni Lennox's book as an excellent list for a "base", all the contributions by various Forum members and various other sources such as liner notes, I compiled a recording chronology. These dates are placed based on the main tracking of a tune. (Thank you for contribution to all this!)

I've long wanted to do this so that I could create kind of an ultimate anthology for a fresh listening experience.

It's far from incomplete, so feel free to add to it, change it, copy and paste and repost. All I ask is that you note your source if you have it.

May you all have a joyful and hopeful and peaceful Christmas season!
Here is my list:

This is really really great, Mark! 👌 Had been thinking of doing this too, just for the sake of chronology, but hadn't taken the time to start on it :)

The CSULB recordings are actually from 1969, not from 1967. I assume all of them were recorded on the same date (May 9, '69)
The songs are:
Goodnight (KC solo vocal)
Crescent Noon (KC solo vocal)
And When I Die (KC and Wanda Freeman vocal)
Three Gospel Songs (Sweepin'Through The City / Peace, Be Still / Get Right, Church)(Wanda Freeman solo vocal, piano accomp. by Richard)
They're on this LP from 1969.

Richard also accompanied another singer at the piano on the CSULB LP from 1968:
Ain't Got Time To Die (Bruce Dennis solo vocal)

I see a track on this 1968 LP called "Tema". I remember Karen mentioning this in some radio interview from 1970 or '71...

Would still love to hear those tracks with Richard accompanying Wanda Freeman and Bruce Dennis someday!

Would you include Richard's piano playing on "Why Don't You Write Me" by The Barries from 1963? I remember Richard saying in an interview it might even have been from 1962...

There are a lot of songs on here I don't recognize (especially in the late 70's and 80's). I assume almost all of them never had work leads from Karen, otherwise we'd see requests for eventual release. Is that the case?

I see the makings of a future "huge-o" mega compilation of a collector's set.....

EVERYTHING UNKNOWN

“You’re No Good” (Linda Ronstadt cover)
Regarding the song BOX OFFICE MOVIE KING (Unknown 1975 or 1976) written by Palma Pascale, I have a publication written by Carpenters fan, Rick Henry called "The Carpenters Online Interviews: Expanded Edition" (2015) where he interviewed several people who had professional interactions with the Carpenters during their career. One of the interviews was with Palma Pascale and she stated that "As life would have it, Karen never recorded BOX OFFICE MOVIE KING. I was told a year later that she had decided to go in a different 'direction' with the next album, and the song wouldn't fit." She didn't elaborate if this was with regards to any type of working lead recording or an actual final recording.

This is an excellent list you put together Mark. I’ve been looking for something like this in chronological order too. Maybe I missed it but we know that Richard performed “Together at Christmas Again” on a Japanese special. I believe it was around 2003/2004?

It was my understanding this was one of the tracks to appear on his Christmas album that never materialized. I would assume there is a studio version on master tape. Since he later performed it live. We really don’t know all the tracks from that album that never came about but we do know this song exists.

I would pay good money to hear some of those even if they’re just demos. Try to Win a Friend and You’re No Good are up there in my want list.

Did you intend to include all of the songs Karen recorded during her solo album sessions with Phil Ramone on this list?

The track list for Karen's solo album is [1] Lovelines [2] All Because of You [3] If I Had You [4] Making Love in the Afternoon [5] If We Try [6] Remember When Lovin' Took All Night [7] Still In Love With You [8] My Body Keeps Changing My Mind [9] Make Believe It's Your First Time [10] Guess I Just Lost My Head [11] Still Crazy After All These Years [12] Last One Singin' the Blues

I am a huge fan of Karen's solo work, including the unreleased solo songs that I found on YouTube.

What I found interesting about your list of songs and dates is how quickly Karen and Richard started recording songs for "Made In America" after shelving Karen's solo album.

I don’t think it was that close as I thought Karen was recording her solo stuff back in 1979 and it was almost finalized by Jan/Feb 80. It may have been almost 2 yrs by the time Karen recorded her solo stuff to when MIA was released.

I really didn't have info on either siblings solo projects as the basis for the list came from the Musical Legacy book. If anyone does have that information, please so share it. :)

It’s been discussed on here before that “Lovelines” was the last track recorded for Karen’s solo in January 1980, because of the whole debacle between the New York execs and LA execs, since the LA execs didn’t think the album had a strong opening track.

I seem to recall that somewhere in the forum, there is a discussion about Karen's solo session photo where she is standing at the microphone wearing her "comics" blouse. I'm certain that members were able to narrow down when the photo was taken based on comments from the photographer and that the lyrics on the podium in front of Karen were of the song "Making Love In The Afternoon" P.S. Pages 35-36 of the New Photos thread in the Members Only section.

That was me. I contacted Bonnie Shiffman who took the photo of her in the studio. I have the print she sent me I posted a photo of it somewhere. It’s printed on rag paper and so beautiful. I had it professionally framed. I email her several time and she told me it was taken sometime in Jan 1980. So that tells me Karen was laying down that track. Possibly getting her part together with Peter Cetera’s flown in vocals. I always thought that was the last track recorded but that’s only my guess.

While re-reading LITTLE GIRL BLUE, I noticed that Randy Schmidt mentions a 4th song that Karen recorded for Joe Osborn's Magic Lamp Records. It is called "Don't Tell Me".
