Jaco Pastorius (along with several non-jazz bassists) redefined the instrument of his choice. Are Weather Report's albums on CD by any chance? I'd to get my hands on a few of those. Dave Brubeck, well, we all know about him. Need I say more? Grover Washington, Jr. is considered one of the fathers of contemporary jazz, along with the likes of Miles Davis (in his late '60s, early '70s fusion period), Chuck Mangione and Deodato. I notice two TJB alumni, Nick Ceroli and John Pattitucci share a birthday on the 22nd. Another Brubeck connection: I like Chet Baker (born on the 23rd) and Paul Desmond's "You Can't Go Home Again". It's one of those melodies I can get lost in when I hear it.
