I know, I know, enough with the questions, top 10s, etc... hey, but I'm new and what do I know...nothing.

Lets say you are stranded on a desert island with all the comforts of home, alone, with any music you want.... EXCEPT your A&M artists past and present (IRS too Bill  ) However, you are allowed to take with you 10 (and only 10) lps or cds from the A&M or IRS family. Which 10 lps/cds from our beloved A&M artists would you bring? Compilation discs are ok :o

Just curious as to what lps/cds mean the most to you all. :)

J- (Neil is now wondering how he ever let me on here in the first place... :D )

Five cds off the top of my head:

Brasil 66 Foursider
Brasil 66 UK comp 2-disc
Herb Alpert Classic Vol 1
Herb Alpert Classic Vol 19 (? I think)

I sure I'll add/change tomorrow-- have fun with it, it doen't matter!!!

I guess if I could consider it a "CD wallet", I'd be OK. I have a couple of CD wallets where, if I'm going on a trip, I have to be careful about which CDs I pick, since I'm stuck with them for the entire trip! However, on trips, I'm likely to bias myself toward compilations, a lot of them made at home, so I can get a bigger/better track selection.

Hmmm...A&M picks? The list changes daily, but here are today's picks:

The Police: Synchronicity
Joe Jackson: Look Sharp! (or Night & Day, depends on mood)
Brasil '66: Look Around
Herb Alpert: Fandango
Styx: Equinox
Sting: Dream Of The Blue Turtles
A.C. Jobim: Wave
Tamba 4: We And The Sea
Tijuana Brass: Greatest Hits (or Going Places)
Burt Bacharach: Burt Bacharach

If I were choosing among these and CDs I've made myself, I'd probably change the list a bit. I'd probably substitute my own TJB "Greatest Hits" CD (which contains both of the GH albums, minus a couple of tracks I don't care, and padded with a few tracks from Foursider). Plus, I'd likely throw in my CD of Warm/Summertime. The Jobim I have all on one CD, both dubbed from vinyl...they sound good together. Tamba 4, I'd likely throw on a few good tracks from Samba Blim to fill out the CD.

Burt-wise, I'd make my own "Best Of" with only my favorite tracks...which rarely coincide with any existing Best Of CDs out there. (Although Easy Loungin', from Harry's description, is about the closest to what I'd pick personally!) Brasil '66, likewise, would be a compilation of favorites from the first four albums: most of Herb Alpert Presents..., one or two from Equinox, most of Look Around, and the four good tracks from Fool On The Hill.

Joe Jackson is a tough call--I could put Look Sharp! and I'm The Man on one CD. I'd also have a hard time choosing between those, Night & Day and Body & Soul.

For me it varies day-to-day. There are days when I feel I need a "Jeffrey Comanor" fix or a "Tramline" fix, or something odd like one of the artists who only did one 45...

Nope--you had a space at the end of some of the image filenames, just before the closing [/image] code. All fixed!

(If the image tags themselves are showing, that's a clue there's a typo in it somewhere. If the tags weren't showing, but you got the 'broken image' icon, that would mean the image is missing.)

3-The Cramps Psychedelic Jungle/Gravest Hits

This selection is a tough one--depending on mood, I usually gravitate toward Songs The Lord Taught Us (file under "sacred music" :D ) as my favorite. Could be I like this one better because they were free of the rough edges from Gravest Hits (although the distorted "Human Fly" has a grind they haven't matched since  ), and yet Bryan Gregory was still with the band. Psych Jungle, OTOH, has some sly moments that I like, but the production seems a little more glossy. I still feel that their IRS recordings are their best, though. I like their later music, but not as much as the IRS era. (How can one resist songs like "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog" or "Let's Get F***ed Up". :D )

For a laugh, go to Yahoo's music site and watch the two Cramps videos. :D Make sure you're using broadband, though.

Interesting, though, an A&M/IRS punk/new wave desert island collection. Here goes:

The Cramps: Songs The Lord Taught Us
Fleshtones: EP (did this have a title?)
Oingo Boingo: Nothing To Fear
Oingo Boingo: EP
Police: Ghost In The Machine or Regatta de Blanc
Joe Jackson: Look Sharp!
IRS Greatest Hits Vol. 2 & 3 (hold the hammer)
Urgh! A Music War
Patrick D Martin: Computer Datin' (who???)
Go-Go's: Beauty & The Beat
Klark Kent: EP (Musical Madness...)

Honorable mentions to Animal Logic, Alley Cats, Wall Of Voodoo.

Oh, and BTW, "Wait For The Blackout" is the best Damned song on the entire collection (GH Vol. 2 & 3)...pun intended! (Does anyone know what the #@($& we're talking about?? :D )

...reprising liner notes...

It seems this topic pops up every year, so here's my new list:

Herb Alpert/TJB - Coney Island
Gerry Mulligan - The Age Of Steam
The Police - Synchronicity
Neil Larsen - High Gear
Mel Lewis - Friends
Supertramp - Even In The Quietest Moments
Baja Marimba Band - Foursider
Sergio Mendes/Brasil '66 - Fool On The Hill
Herb Alpert - Second Wind (Japanese version)
Michel Colombier - Wings

Like Neil, I would probably go with my own homemade CDs, since the content would be more suitable for me, as well as more time on the CDs themselves.

...wondering just where the heck this island is at anyway online...

Usually, when this topic pops up, compilation albums aren't OK, so I tned to think in terms of regular albums. Given that constraint, my list limited to 10 today would be:

Going Places - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
Fandango- Herb Alpert
Warm - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
Fool On The Hill - Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Primal Roots - Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77
Offering - Carpenters
Sun Down Lady - Lani Hall
Lani - Lani Hall
Burt Bacharach - Burt Bacharach
Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends - Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends

Now, if professionally made single-disc compilations are allowed, then it's quite different:

Foursider - Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
Easy Loungin' Collection - Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Easy Loungin' Collection - Burt Bacharach
Foursider - Baja Marimba Band
Carpenters - Twenty Two Hits
Carpenters - Offering
Classics Volume 19 - Lani Hall
Lo Mejor De Lani - Lani Hall
Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends - Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends
Classics Volume 20 - Herb Alpert
