...who may just have to sell a few things to get these CDs...

Just got the same mail and was headed here to post about it. Great price -- almost sorry I didn't wait!

...still packing, online...

I just received that notice myself and ordered the four "new" ones. The price was a pleasant surprise--some domestic Verve CD's cost more than that! The total with shipping was about $75 for all four.

I notice that Dusty Groove are also stocking HAP, Fool, Crystal and YML at the new $17.99 price. Those are probably the new reissues also. They are apparently NOT stocking the Japanese Equinox and LA--just the domestic Verve versions for 15.99 and 9.99, respectively.

...one very happy camper online...

When I contacted DG a few weeks ago, they told me that they don't stock the imports if there are domestic releases available, since it's their experience that the import equivalents don't sell.

I got my notice too, sent for 3 of them. Will order the others next payday
unless I hit tonights lottery, which is up to 100 million.

%#$&$%! Now I wish I had waited, instead of pre-ordering them from Melody Blvd. Live & learn, eh?

WEll, I decided to order PRIMAL ROOTS, STILLNESS and PAIS TROPICAL from Dusty Groove, even though I already have them on order from Melody Blvd. Figure I can get rid of the extras at some point, and it would be good insurance against something happening like MB not gettting them in, or something.

Well, PRIMAL ROOTS is out of stock already at Dusty Groove! You guys is quick! But, I'm glad I have it on pre-order over at MB.

Well, I ain't one of "yous guys" yet. My first ones will be Herb Alpert Presents, Crystal Illusions and Fool. Next one after those will be Primal Roots. I may get the Expo 70 just due to it being rare, although I do not like live recordings as a rule. After that, I'll fill in the rest.

I'd think that Dusty Groove has more coming in soon, since these will prove to be popular titles.

Interesting to see what people chose of these offerings. I ordered Equinox,
Stillness and Ye Me Le. I had not heard of the one called Home Cooking,
but I am more a fan of '66 rather than '77.

I've gotta quit this website - it's forcing me to spend too much money, and I thought this would cure my overspending on eBay! Ordered 'Stillness', 'Ye-Me-Le' and 'Expo 70' to pretty much complete my Brasil '66 collection and for good measure ordered 'Bola Sete at the Monterey Jazz Festival' ($9.99), Carnival's self-titled CD for same and Jobim's 'Wave'. BTW, also got Claudine Longet's 'Claudine' and 'The Look of Love' Japanese import CDs at Harmony House's 40% off Going-Out-Of-Business sale. I did resist buying a third Longet CD, 2 Sandpiper imports (no 'Let Go', my favorite track darnit!) and TJB's 'Definitive Hits' (no 'Slick'). FYI: Berkeley store(Woodward S. of 12 Mile). Might be cheaper to go back to car & motorcycle parts and books on eBay...
Went to see The Who and Robert Plant at The Palace of Auburn Hills last night, and both were awesome! Plant started off, performing several solo tracks including some from his new album 'Dreamland' and several Zeppelin standards like 'Going to California', 'Whole Lotta Love' and 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' (but not 'Stairway to Heaven) The Who's "Ox", John Entwistle's absence was hard felt, especially to hardcore fans like me, who've heard and seen them now for four decades, but still worth the trip...

Tim: our Canton Harmony House (Ford Rd. @ Sheldon), surprisingly, is still one of the last remaining stores still open, and it was one of the last new ones to open. Although I don't think I've been there but once. I remember one of my first trips to the then-new Woodward location--it was like our old Harmony House in Warren (11 Mile @ Hoover), but three times as large. Interesting that they had Claudine!

As for Sandpipers, "Let Go" is on the Digitally Remastered Best, a good, but pricey, compilation from Japan. And IIRC, Definitive Hits does have "Casino Royale" on it. (I thought it was the last track before "Rise".)

Dusty Groove, yes, is an interesting addiction. It doesn't help our wallets, either, when they put all of those tempting descriptions up on the site! Once I get caught up on A&M Sergio, I intend to get a couple more of his pre-A&M recordings, like Dance Moderno and one or two others. Previously, I'd bought just about all of Walter Wanderley's Verve CDs, Tamba 4's Samba Blim, a two-CD Tamba Trio compilation, and one or two others that I can't recall right now from Dusty Groove.

Ya got me, but I was editing my post to correct my mistake about Casino Royale! I've already got TJB's "Classics" CD (without 'Casino Royale') so maybe shoulda gotten it anyway; rather wait for one with both that and 'Slick' though.
Almost tempted to order several Wanderley CDs too, like 'Rain Forest' and 'Batucada', but wanted to pull my LPs to figure which tracks I liked the best (been a long time since I've heard them). Also looked for a Triste Janeiro CD but no luck. Reminds me, Nancy Ames' 'Spiced With Brasil' is another I should look for. See what I mean about you 'making' me spend money???

Just looking at Dusty Groove, and there is a release entitled Songs of Sergio Mendes selected by Shinichi Owasa. Info says it has rare A&M 60/70s tracks, including several of the 10 or so listed that are not on the UK 2disc set. I tried to download japanese translation of HMV here at work but it was a no-go, due to firewalls, etc. Does anyone know about this? Can anyone post the track list here if they can find it? Don't want to duplicate too much on the "comp" if I can avoid it. Thanks to all.... J- :)

Here ya go! From the looks of it, it seems Okay, but nothing to get overly excited about (unless there are more hidden rare goodies not mentioned)

"An excellent collection of work by Sergio Mendes -- selected and compiled by Shinichi Osawa, and also featuring a few rare bonus cuts! The bulk of the material comes from Sergio's classic records for A&M -- the groovy, bossa-filled, female vocal sides that made him a household name with the American public in the 60s and 70s. The whole set's completely wonderful -- with a total of 26 tracks, and a length that goes way past the usual album by Sergio from the 60s -- which usually seem far too short at only 30 or 40 minutes! Titles include "Batucada", "The Frog", "Roda", "After Midnight", "For What It's Worth", "Wichita Lineman", "Bim Bom", "Berimbau", "Cinnamon & Clove", "The Joker", "Daytripper", and "Wave" -- plus the bonus tracks "Mas Que Nada", recorded live at the Greek Theater, and Shinichi Osawa's remix of "Mas Que Nada"!"

Dusty Groove hasn't listed the HOMECOOKING and BRASIL '88 CDs yet. On Ebay last week, Brand-new sealed copies of the former sold for $31.00 while the latter sold for $63.60!

Dusty did have both the Homecooking and Brasil '88 CDs a couple of days before the others got listed. I think they were either $15.99 or $16.99 each. I ordered mine, but maybe they sold out of their first batch already.

Be sure to take advantage of Dusty Groove's notification feature--they'll send an e-mail, for titles you select, when they come back in stock. Other than half.com's "wish list", I don't know of other sellers who offer this.

Holy $#%&! The Dusty Groove website indicates already sold out of ALL of the new A&M B'66/77 releases. Paying attention, Universal USA?

I checked around 6:00PM EDT. They had Herb Alpert Presents... and Live At Expo '70 in stock, plus the domestic A&Ms. All the others? Looooong gone!

Could be Dusty Groove didn't get in their entire order. I know they were anticipating a lot of activity on these titles. :D

Also, CDNow might have some of these titles, but it's hard to tell from their lack of descriptions. Pricing, as expected, is anywhere from $25-$30 each. I still fail to see how a smaller shop like Dusty Groove can sell for $18-$20 each, when CDNow wants a small ransom. Probably taking advantage of the "convenience" angle for customers.

...ready to hop a plane to Japan to stock up...

A search in the giant Virgin Megastore down in Disney World revealed no new Mendes product. There was, however, a curiously large empty section with a copy of Greatest Hits and Equinox. It was momentous for being the first brick-and-mortar store the I've seen stocking the Verve release of Equinox. As is typical with record stores, they might have ordered in one copy of each of the new discs, and some fortunate fan happened upon the whole lot, shooting his vacation load in one place!

Gee, you think that just MAYBE all this interest might inspire Sergio to...uh....release a...uh....NEW CD...of NEW material, y'know?

I mean, it has been, uh...SEVEN YEARS since Oceano...

He's been making some touring appearances...you'd think he could tour more if he had NEW PRODUCT. Although the cornucopia of reissues certainly will keep me happy for awhile! :D
