I have a promotional version of this CD. Exactly the same as the stock CD but with a PROMOTIONAL stamp and a DIPX number.

I can remember being so excited that Eddie del Barrio had released an album, I immediately snapped up a copy of my own... half expecting music reminiscent of Herb Alpert's Under A Spanish Moon or something similar. But this was nothing like it whatsoever. I'm all for improvisation, but I also like to hear a melody, at least for a few minutes before meandering into oblivion. I guess I should've paid more attention to the title FREE PLAY.
Sorry, but I just couldn't get into this one at all.

The first three tracks feature Charlie Haden (an alumnus of Ornette Coleman) and Peter Erskine, so I would imagine they are very much in that "free jazz" style, which isn't my cup of tea either. It's the only one of del Barrio's albums I found on Qobuz so I'll give it a spin later if I remember it.
