What albums can you think of that actually have a Black & White photo on the FRONT cover, as well as the back?

Heart: Bébé Le Strange

Bobby Goldsboro: Come Back Home

Marty Robbins: Adiós Amigo

Johnny Mathis: Killing Me Softly

Andy Williams: In The Arms Of Love

Andy Williams: You've Got A Friend

Any others you can think of?

Dave

The Beatles used black and white photos or drawings on several of their album covers:

REVOLVER
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT
WITH THE BEATLES

At least two different Carpenters albums have had black and white photos on the front:

LOVELINES
BY REQUEST (Japan)

Herb Alpert famously had black and white front pictures, but color back pictures on:

THE BRASS ARE COMIN'
HERB ALPERT'S NINTH (the little photo on the front, anyway)

Burt Bacharach has a black and white photo on the front of his 25th ANNIVERSARY CLASSIC VLOUME 23. I think several other in that series do too.

A fairly famous black and whit cover goes to Simon & Garfunkel's BOOKENDS, and Art himself used a black and white photo on BREAKAWAY,

Lani Hall had two black and white photos on covers:

BLUSH (though it was tinted to a pinkish "blush" color)
LANI HALL (her second Spanish album)

Sheryl Crow has used rather glum-looking black and white photos on two of her discs:

THE GLOBE SESSIONS
SHERYL CROW (self titled)

I'm sure there are many more.

I forgot two Herb solo albums:

FANDANGO
SECOND WIND

Harry

"...And I look around my room where it's so dark and cold, without you... The ashes in the fireplace are the poetry and the songs I write about you... So used to you being by my side, it may take some time to realize...It's all over..."

And I forgot an obvious one:

Val Stöecklein: GREY LIFE

Dave

BLUSH (though it was tinted to a pinkish "blush" color)
LANI HALL (her second Spanish album)

Besides these recordings, I also like:

"20 éxitos" by Soda Stereo

"Tierra Bendita" by Los Rancheros (Argentinian release)

"Crossroads" by Bon Jovi

Easy choice for me. Fleetwood Mac's RUMOURS, followed closely by their self-titled "white" album. Two very classy covers.

A couple of other A&M b&w covers, not favorites of mine but just listing for posterity:

Joan Baez, WHERE ARE YOU NOW MY SON
Joe Jackson LOOK SHARP, BODY & SOUL (tinted), I'M THE MAN
Nazareth CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ROCK & ROLL

"Tusk" had a small black and white photo of a dog on the front. Come to think of it, "FM Live" and "Say You Will" might be B&W also.

Rosie Vela's "Zazu" (A&M) was black and white...or actually, more sepia-toned like "The Brass are Comin'", both of which I'd call monochromatic, not specifically B&W.

Some other B&W (or monochromatic) favorites: Steely Dan's "Pretzel Logic" and "Everything Must Go", and Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" and "Morph The Cat".

Joe Jackson's had quite a few himself: Look Sharp, I'm The Man, and a stylized blue cover with a B&W photo of Joe on "Jumpin' Jive". His recent "Volume 4" (reunion of the original quartet) was also B&W--a volume knob on a guitar amp set to "4".

Though the packaging is green, Time Weisberg's picture is B&W.

Such as this one...:

sp4165.jpg

--And let's not forget the First Madonna Album, as well as the Sepia-Toned Like A Virgin LP, which followed...

And there's also Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan (--Forgot the title, but it contained their catchy Hit Single, "Hollywood") and Prince's Dirty Mind...

I also remember The Who's QUADROPHENIA Soundtrack, and Paul & Linda McCartney's Press To Play, too...

Art Garfunkel's Scissors Cut was also done in B&W, and another LP of his, Lefty has an old B&W photo of him (from fairly long-ago) on the cover...

There's also Kenny Rogers & The First Edition's Ballad of Calico, a themed-concept album, done in an "Old West Sepia-Tone"... And also Mac Davis Mac Davis; B&W front cover, while the back cover is in Full-Color, showing his head in a red background...

Dave said:

And the (True) Blue-Themed True Blue, which came after that, followed by another sepia-toned cover (with a colored text) Like A Prayer...

Dave

Wow, nice post Mr. Bill!

But I can't believe you left out Sting's DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES! :D (AM3750)

Yes, there are plenty in other series... I was concentrating on the main line 4100-5400 (and its sidetrack 3600 series). If I did them all you can be sure Sting would've been in there in several places. Even Regattta De Blan could've qualified as a monochromatic (blue & silver vice Black & White).

--Mr Bill

Tony Bennett: Greatest Hits, Vol. 3--Which makes me wonder why Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 & Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 and even are in color...

Chi Coltrane: Chi Coltrane--Which features her first & only hit, "Thunder & Lightning"...

Cheap Trick: In Color--Actually, you flip to theback to see the "other title", In Black & White... :jester:

Jerry Vale: The Impossible Dream

Frank Sinatra: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Carly Simon: Spy

Dave

Gino Vannelli-Brother to Brother
Laura Nyro-New York Tendaberry
Natalie Cole-Unforgettable
Kiss-Dressed to Kill

Eric Carmen: Change Of Heart (and Eric "All By Myself" Carmen, --though with a COPPER Cover..., for that matter...)

Billy Joel: The Stranger

Billy Joel: Piano Man

Billy Joel: Best of Billy Joel, Volume 1 and 2 (2-Record Set)

Barbra Streisand: Greatest Hits, Volume 2 (..., Vol. 1 is in color, though--Right?

Barbra Streisand: Classical Barbra

Barbra Streisand: What About Today?

Bobby "Blue" Bland: Two Steps From The Blues (--Which I think is a various shades of BLUE, actually...)

Dave

I recently bought Cher's Cher which later got reissued as Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves...

I'd Rather Believe In You was also done in Black & White and using old photos from previous photo-sessions (on was on the back of Stars, the I'd Rather... predecessor...) 'Cause she was pregnant with her lil' Elijah Blue...!
baby.gif

Then, there's also Michael Parks Blue and you could also count the Average White Band's Average White Band, with its hand-drawn cover...

Dave

Robbie Dupree "Street Corner Heroes" (1981) but it has the blue letters "Street Corner Heroes". Matt Clark Sanford, MI

What was originally issued as Jimmy Witherspoon & Eric Burdon as Guilty, in 1971, gets reissued in 1976 as Black & White Blues, with Burdon, this time getting top billing in the title:

Eric_Burdon___Jimmy_Witherspoon_-_Black___White_Blues-%5BFront%5D-%5Bwww.FreeCovers.net%5D.jpg

A road shot where the two principals are both seem to be enjoying the ride...

And don't forget Eric Burdon's Sun Secrets (here reissued in tandem with STOP on CD):
