Purists probably scoffed at this one, but I like it quite a bit, more so than his other fine CTI albums. This album finds Freddie Hubbard finally joining the 1970s and updating his sound beyond the hard bop he was known for elsewhere--this one fits more into the Creed Taylor mold, yet still hangs onto Hubbard's originality. The sound on recent remasterings (vinyl and high-res) clears up a little of the Van Gelder "mud" that plagued earlier versions. Three of the songs on the record are covers, including the then-recent "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" by the McCartneys. One of my favorites albums in the CTI catalog!
