I have a regular sized vinyl copy but it plays at 45 RPM with several versions. It's a promo copy and I like it very much. I have looked at eBay many times and I can't find the instrumental version I like so much on a CD. When Diamonds was originally being played on the radio, CD singles with alternate versions of a lot of popular songs were being released. Does anyone own a copy? There are two instrumental versions and the version I like has mostly a trumpet version, very different version.

Yes. "DIAMONDS" had all kinds of releases including a CD EP with a bunch of different mixes, including the instrumental. It's rather rare and sells in the three figure range.

I never found one of those in the wild, but see it on eBay and Discogs. It's too expensive there, especially because it's possible to have ALL of the mixes on 12" vinyl, which I do.

Just look up "diamonds alpert" on Discogs and you'll see all of the variations.

Well, I am glad I have the vinyl I do. I will see Herb in a very small venue in December in Atlanta. Maybe I can pass a note to him, lol.

This is the promotional CD that goes for big bucks. It's got 8 different mixes of "Diamonds"

Now, if you're OK with 12" vinyl, you can get all of these mixes on two different 12" EPs. The first five on that CD can be found on a special DJ promo set of three colored discs, red, white, and blue. The middle "white" (actually clear) is the one that contains those first five "Diamonds" mixes.

The last three are on the very common 12" of "Diamonds" that was released to the public.

For some reason I prefer the Cool summer mix versions of "Diamonds" I have the single version on the import CD "The Very Best Of Herb Alpert" since the CD is way too pricey I will look for a Good condition vinyl copy and have it needle dropped that's pretty much my only option

This was typical of remixing during those years, where maybe only one or two out of several mixes is worth listening to. I find the original LP version and the cool summer mix are the only two among these worth hearing.

The cool summer mix idea came from Janet Jackson's "Nasty" from her first album, which had the same type of mix on a 12-inch single.

Wow, Harry. Thank you for posting the Diamonds remixes CD that I have never seen, I knew it had to exist. Maybe with such a small venue when I see him in December I can ask him (I am close but not one of the first rows) If he could so a limited release of that CD, may he would consider doing it. I just saw Karla Bonoff for the second time and it was a small venue. Both times she came out into the lobby. Very accessible. She signed CD's and answered questions. We all know there's only a few versions we all want from the CD. Go ahead and release all of them and maybe have a brief write up of how each version came to be mixed. One big Christmas want. :)
