I don't think this has been mentioned before, but Herb is one of the producers (along with Whoopi Goldberg and few dozen others ) of the new hybrid musical/documentary "Harlem Song," which is playing at the Apollo Theater in (way) uptown Manhattan. The first reviews are in, and they're pretty mixed. The show was conceived as a kind of "tourist trap" to get visitors uptown, and the reviewers are saying it has the chance of succeeding on that score, but that it is unfocused and lacking the professionalism (a lot of the performers are first-timers and kids at that) to sustain a long run with the typical NYC theater-goer. Sounds like kind of an interesting idea though--tracing the history of Harlem with a combination of live theater and a Ken Burns type documentary that is shown between live acts.
