I just received the January issue of AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE yesterday, and it has featured in its "On The Block" section the recent Bonhams auction at Hershey, PA. What's interesting about this auction was the inclusion of a 1961 Facel Vega HK500 coupe similar to the one that Herb Alpert once owned.
This particular example was an older restoration, but the car was in good shape and only had 60,000 miles...the price it went for was 23,000 dollars. Here's what Keith Martin, publisher of Sports Car Market Magazine had to say about this particular car...
"Fewer than 500 HK500's were built; when new, they were priced nearly the same as Rolls-Royces. Although it was fully priced in terms of the current market, if this car runs as well as it looks, it's cheap for the performance and panache that it offers."
So, the Facel isn't worth nearly as much today as it was in the '60's...but I still want one...
