With this release, any chance that the Kai and JJ masters were not destroyed in the fire?

After all these years, still pining away for CD releases of their A&M/CTi albums.

I am not getting any younger and fear I will never hear these masterworks again.

I'm wondering whether the STONEBONE album will be released in April, or pushed back to whenever they reschedule Record Store Day. My pre-order through Target still seems to be there. We'll see as the date gets closer.

Target still said April, but the local music store shows the June date now.

That may end up being the route I go, too---though it means having to get the turntable back in working order.
Aw heck, it's only money! Get a Clearaudio Master Innovation and live a little. 😁 You don't need those cars or that spare kidney anyways. But I assure you, it does sound wonderful. (I heard it with a DS Audio optical cartridge.)

But back to reality. I hope UMe releases this album and California Soul digitally one of these days. CDs are pretty much a thing of the past for lesser-known titles, and I wouldn't expect anything in a low volume seller to go through the process of manufacturing and distribution. But what wouldn't surprise me is the fanatical Japanese market to release them on CD at some point. They seem to cater to specialists like us. (Look back many years ago when we kept Dusty Groove in business, buying all those Brasil '66 releases.)

Nice turntable!

I may have said it here before---I'm beyond physical media now. I couldn't tell you the last time I played a CD, much less an LP or cassette. And given that the costs of downloads and streaming are a fraction of making and warehousing physical media, I'm always surprised when a label passes up the opportunity to make titles available digitally.

I agree--digitally, I don't touch a CD unless I'm ripping it to the server. I don't even have an optical player in my systems anymore, not even for video. And with Qobuz tied into Roon Player, it's like I have one gigantic music library when I'm online.

The stats for my own ripped/downloaded library (and I still have a couple of boxes I haven't ripped yet):

Vinyl is a whole separate experience though, so I like the hands-on experience of it. And with some releases not ever making it to digital, I find it's a necessity.

Nice turntable!
Indeed! I guess I can dream a little, and I certainly wouldn't turn one down if offered to me for free. :D The baby brother Innovation Compact Wood (pictured here) with tonearm is around $12K (new), a bit less in the non-"wood" version. (And there are more expensive arms--I'd prefer a 10" or longer arm over the 9" pictured here.)

It's a lot of money, for sure. But once I heard vinyl playback at this level, I understood the full potential of the format.

And I buy most things used anyways... 😉

Continue to be a physical media (CDs) guy myself.

have tons of CDs and will probably spend my "stimulus" check on a few box sets and new tubes for my headphone amp.

I have ripped most, if not all of my music, into flac files for listening in the study through my headphone amp.

Gotta admit, I still enjoy tearing the shrink off a new release and holding the product in my hands.

Unfortunately, got rid of my copies of "Betwixt and Between" and "Isreal" many years ago , so no chance for needledrops (+ no turntable as well).

I do regret not buying all of the AM+ reissues back in the early 80s--I found a used Israel a few years ago, so I'm glad I got ahold of one.

Creed Taylor (who I interviewed on a talk show at WSB AM Atlanta via telephone in 1978) was apparently a difficult bloke to work with. Bob James told me he sued to gain ownership of his CTI masters and won. It left him embittered and is the reason he owns all his stuff via Tappan Zee Records. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him about Stonebone, but Doug Payne's website has the rundown of all eight cuts in the Stonebone sessions. (P.S. Need to update my homemade avatar to the real thing. It arrives in my mailbox next week.)

Wow Rudy you have almost as many tracks as I have on my laptop and tablet each I currently have 57.031 tracks that represents my whole music library from CDs Vinyl needle drops tapes and downloads etc but I know you will surpass me eventually because you have some you haven't got to yet

Mine will jump a little once I rip the remaining CDs I haven't gotten to yet. They were really low priority since I rarely listened to them. But I've found that having music on a server, it is way easier to queue up a random track I may want to listen to that I haven't heard in years, or just randomly search through the music and play something that catches my eye. I also have a lot of LPs and especially 12" singles I want to digitize, partly as a backup in case they are lost/damaged, but also to be able to play them on other systems in the house. To save a ton of work, though, I'm waiting to get one of those SweetVinyl SugarCube units that will clean up all the noise. (I've yet to hear computer software that removes random pops and clicks without causing audible side effects, aside from hand-editing them out.)

I just took a look at my Target order of the STONEBONE LP. They're saying delivery next week and that the order has processed. We'll see if anything shows up.

I was going to order from Target but couldn't find anything else to make the $35 minimum for free shipping. (I planned on buying two copies though.) After all, they're out of TP and hand sanitizer like everyone else. 😁 I may go ahead and look again and place that order. I think they probably already have them in stock (as I bet many record stores do), but they know nothing about RSD and will ship them regardless.

While my order has a note that it's being prepared for shipment, I took note of a button that said "Re-order". When I click that, it says that the item is not available.

So we'll see. This may just be a case of an item that was supposed to be in and they didn't get it, but the computer says it's preparing for shipment. Or, they really do have one or two and are going to honor those orders. Stay tuned.

Yeah, it's no longer on the site from my end either. I would order from Dearborn Music but their price is way too much, especially since I want two of them.

Got an email today that says it's been pushed out one more day! It's now estimated at April 17. I sincerely doubt it.

I have no idea when this LP will be released. I think the release date announcements for RSD titles (across the three new dates) is coming on June 1.

A small bone (no pun intended) to pick about the RSD sticker--this so far is the second rarest, as it had a limited release in Japan. The Tamba 4 was the rarest, as it never was released (outside of a 45 RPM single) and was only a rumor as far as we knew!

Some of the record stores seem to use a common web site platform to sell online, and I found a couple of places that let me put it on the wishlist. Like with the Tamba 4, I plan on getting two copies since there's no telling if it will ever make it to digital or not.

I'm hearing October 24th now for the STONEBONE release for "Record Store Day". It's the third of three "drop" dates.

I don't know why they just didn't abandon RSD this year. I'll keep an eye out for an online retailer who offers it at a fair price. My local store's price is shown higher than anyone else's at this point, so they won't get my business. (Sometimes they run a 20% off sale on RSD, though, so if they run a sale, at least that would bring the price in line with everyone else.)
