No, Kai Winding had a solo album on Impulse in 1956.

This is a really cool album, especially for trombone fans. Kai & JJ reunited for this record after a few years away from each other. The harmonies aren't that far off from what Herb Alpert did with the TJB a few years later. Both hornmen provide blistering solos and make use of different mutes as well. Steve Allen's "This Could Be The Start Of Something" is a perfect opener, and along with JJ's "Judy" is my favorite track. They even have some humor in their playing on the boisterous "Side By Side" and Winding's "Going, Going, Gong!" Strong album all around.
