Jazz alto sax man Arthur Blythe passed away on Monday the 27th at the age of 76. While he is largely known for his form of "free jazz", he actually had a very lyrical style to some tunes. One of my favorites was from the God Rest Ye Merry Jazzmen Christmas compilation where he played a great version of "The Christmas Song".

Sad. Valerie Carter recorded with Howdy Moon for the A&M album just called HOWDY MOON (SP-3628) in 1974. Her self-composed "Cook With Honey" (also performed by Judy Collins) appeared on the album and is a favorite of mine. The album has been available on CD from Japan at least twice, as D32Y3569 for the A&M 25th Anniversary and on SHM-CD (UICY-75315) for the A&M 50th Anniversary.

Just heard this again today as it shuffled through my iPhone. Disarmingly pretty song and such warm, cozy vocals. Forgot how much I love this song.
