Memorabilia: photos of artists and A&Mers from the archives

Supertramp double gold in Holland, probably Crime and Crisis. Definitely my blasé debonair champagne glass phase.

My tits definitely better than Peter Frampton's. International affiliate jolly in a boat off Marina del Rey. No-one knew in December 1967 when we both appeared on BBC TV Simon Dee Show, he in The Herd and I in The Gentle Power of Song. Who's that at the back tittering? It was the 60s. Peace bro.

Same international affiliates' boat trip, LA, 1978? John Helliwell in the background. Who can identify macho man left and the lady of the demure knees?

Raymond Ian Burns, a.k.a.Captain Sensible, Paris promo, 1982 hit "Happy Talk". Sensible by name, sensible by nature. He has just hung me on a coat hook by the back of my tux.

Probably promo for Outlandos d'Amour 1979, Paris. The fresh face on Gordon Sumner a.k.a. Sting confirms the early date. Top left Dale Newton and Cathy Oudemans respectively promotion managers of A&M UK and A&M Europe. On Jerry's shoulder is Peter de Rougemont, President CBS Record Intl Europe, A&M's distributor. Kneeling next to Andy Summers is Jerry's fallen comrade and lawyer Abe Summer, no relation. Next to Stewart Copeland is the Police's road manager, Kim Turner RIP

Jerry would give us 10 days. We'd hire the jet. We'd arrive at a new destination every day in the early evening and let the CBS CEO take us out for dinner. In the morning meet with the CBS staff, beat them up and exhort them to further efforts and sales figures, sandwich lunch and back to the airport. Cathy Oudemans was on this one. Looks like she got there before me and put the A&M sticker on the aircraft.

Not gold records for everyone. This photo and our body language relates the parlous state of media reaction for Herb's work late 70 and early 80s and negligible record sales. God knows we tried. Take your hands out of your pockets when you're talking to the founder...! Who knitted me the A&M sweater?

There is nothing that John Helliwell would not do for promotion. When he was on his own we could go red carpet. Here is greeted by one of the world's greatest chefs Paul Bocuse in Lyon. Yup, the chef got a signed album.

John Helliwell on that 1979 promo tour. You can tell it's Paris because next to Charlie Prevost, Supertramp 2nd in command, is Pascale Bernardin, their concert promoter and son of the owner of the Crazy Horse girlie show. John is with his adorable with Christine... we saw them for their 50th wedding anniversary just before lockdown. The freeloading Japanese must be from A&M's affiliate there. He is definitely more interested in the girl at the next table than the girl sitting next to him.

Supertramp "Even in the Quietest Moments" gold record in Holland. Joe Little, A&M Records Europe, and the producer of Top Pop, the TV show which launched hundreds of arists across Europe

CBS cats in Paris schmoozing Dave Margereson, manager of Supertramp. Pacsale Farcouli, Alain Levy (MD CBS France before becoming President for Polygram, The Universe, and Bunny Friedus, the star of CBS International, based in New York.

Does that jacket fit Jerry. Drinks reception at my office, 35 Avenue Franlin D Roosevelt to introduce Jerry to CBS execs, Jean-Claud Gastineaux and Alain Levy of CBS France and, next to me, Michael von Winterfeldt of CBS International in Paris.

Wow, that’s most impressive. What a fun time then. Everything was so much fun and over the top. I miss those days, and the NARM Conventions. The parties, food, and entertainment were first class. There were a ton more labels back then, so more suites in the hotels. Especially in Los Angeles and Miami.

Thanks for sharing your great collection. Some real treasures you have.
