Music That Influenced Richard and Karen

Discussion in 'A Song For You: The Carpenters Forum' started by newvillefan, Mar 14, 2019.

  1. I can't remember the source, but I recall Karen speaking about how she and Richard wanted to get Jud Conlon to do the choral work on Christmas Portrait. Unfortunately, when they inquired about his whereabout, they discovered he passed away in 1966. The Jud Conlon Chorus appeared on a lot of Bing Crosby Christmas records in the 1950s. This clip isn't a Christmas song, but its one of their performances that I most enjoy. A possible inspiration for the harmonies on the Bachrach-David medley?
  2. "Mamas and the Papas" was another group that influenced Carpenters. They covered "California Dreaming", but I would prefer that they had selected "Monday, Monday".

I'd go with Dream a Little Dream of Me.
