For an exercise one day, I want to put all the TJB albums onto CDs, end to end, to see how many discs they'd fill up. A couple of their albums don't even break the 30 minute mark.

You’re not the only one who got tired of waiting. But what a price to pay to stock my CD rack with all of Herb’s recordings. I had to buy a turntable, CD burner, a stack of blank CD-R’s, and countless used LP’s off of e-bay. But, as of yesterday I have all Herb’s recordings on CD (TJB & Solo). Instead of making best hits style CD’s; I’ve gone with recording the individual albums. Despite how short some are, there are far to many gems that get lost when one picks only the best. I can now sit on the patio, sip my wine and listen to endless hours of beautiful music, without having to get up and turn over an LP.

My current project is converting all of the “Baja Marimba Band” and “The Brass Ring” LP’s to CD.

That's a good selection.

Recently I put all TJB albums through Brass Are Comin' on my iPod. Now that's what I call a greatest hits collection.

Greg Shannon

well be that as it may i prefer to listen to songs like the charmer or casino royale and nrver have to sit thru hello dolly or mame again.

One other project will be for my car CD player: since it plays MP3 files, I can sample at 256k and probably fit all of the TJB songs on one CD. My portable disc player also plays MP3 discs, as does my Pioneer Elite universal player. OK for background music and while driving, but not for serious listening.

Although I still have the vinyl, I bought all the available TJB CD's back in the late '80's (Lonely Bull, Vol.2, Border, Whipped Cream, Going Places, What Now..., Beat of The Brass, Greatest Hits Vol.2, Christmas Album) and I still play them frequently. With my CD burner and the Digital Out of another CD player, I've transferred two CD's onto 1 CD for extra play.

I've recently transferred the first two Baja LP's to CD. They sound great in the car.

Also, I just bought the George McCurn LP (A&M SP 102) and am checking it out now, transferring it to CD. :)

I’ve recently transferred the following BMB LP’s to CD, and they sound fantastic. It confounds me why all the BMB albums weren’t reissued on CD.

Heads UP, Fowl Play, Fresh Air, For Animals Only, Those were the days, Do you know the way to San Jose? and The BMB Rides Again

They don’t make music like this anymore… what a shame.

just finishing up my tjb mix cassettes....everything i like
fits 2 and a half sides, so final side is tjb-related tv stuff
and commercials...like herb talbot's tijuana tin, various
dating game versions & parodies, teaberry shuffle, etc...

but...each tape starts with something different...

vol 1...crawfish with mono & stereo trumpet solos
mixed together...

vol 2...i will wait for you speeded up to 45, then
pitch adjusted back down so it sounds more or less
normal, just quicker tempo...

vol 3...a messsage from herb with music to watch
girls by in the background...not the bob crewe version
tho but an "official" 45 version issued by pepsi...---stolf---

I recently recorded all my vinyl Tjb albums on CD. Except for the occasional smack, crackel and pop I love listening to all the tunes.

well there was no stoppin me
i made vol 2 tonight.
these old songs hold up
remarkably well, don't you think?
pure pop for 60's people.

the brass are comin’
(the little train of caipira)
summertime (w/lani hall)
numero cinco
without her
bittersweet samba
jerusalem
disafinado
south of the border
bud
good morning, mr. sunshine
el presidente
the robin
i’m getting sentimental over you
winter wonderland
slick
sandbox
a taste of honey
this guy’s in love with you
darlin’
our day will come
country lake
rise (the full 8 minutes)
thanks for the memory
tijuana taxi
if i were a rich man
brasilia
so what’s new

Hi folks. I have over 25,000 MP3s and I OWN them all. But almost all of them were available as CDs. Much of the TJB library is not.

You guys have worked around this, ripping the tunes off vinyl. As some of you have mentioned, this is a considerable amount of work! In terms of copyright, I understand one has to own the vinyl (or cassette or whatever) before one can rip the music. I am wondering whether, if I bought the vinyl (off eBay or from a local record shop) I could interest anyone on this forum in trading the vinyl AND cash for copies of MP3s they've already ripped?

I wish I could buy remastered CDs but I cannot, and it seems absurd to keep reinventing the wheel re getting music off these old albums when some have already done so. Any takers? Let me know.

As mentioned above, getting the equipment together is a chore and an expense, at least for me...

But if I had the equipment and the know-how, I'd certainly take the time and do the project.

I've got all the albums...and they are in good to excellent condition...
