Surely everyone can recognize what these "translations" really mean, right?

Harry

Boy, it's really a career overview...looks like a couple of the early instrumental tracks at the beginning all the way through to some ENCANTO songs there at the end (I think). And some of the really great tunes like "Viramundo" and "Pais Tropical" are there.

Biggest problem here is Sergio's career is too long and varied to fit a good overview on 2 disks. He needs at least four!

It seems to skip over the Bell and Elektra stuff and contains only tracks from the early days, both A&M periods, and his recent Concord stuff - all stuff under Universal's umbrella.

What the heck could these be?:

5 in you absorption
Main thing or [ge] of 8 loves
22 love once more
35 as for me your ones

Harry

Well, to me, some of the tracks/songs, written correctly (and TRANSLATED!) would be:

3. So Danca Samba

4. Mais Que Nada

6. (Chove Chuva) Constant Rain

7. Night And Day

10. Fool On The Hill

11. Scarborough Fair

12. Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay

13. Pretty World

14. Wichita Lineman

15. Norwegian Wood

16. Masquerade

18. Viramundo

19. Pais Tropical

20. After Sunrise

21. Promise Of A Fisherman

28. Cinnamon & Cloves (Cravo y Canella)

29. Rio de Janiero

31. Mais Que Nada (featuring The Black-Eyed-Peas)

32. The Frog (featuring " ? " & Will-I-Am)

33. Rainy (featuring " ? ")

So, yes, I gather some of the newest stuff must be from Timeless & Encanto...

Whatever A&M tracks that have gone on previous comps, would surely "fill in the blanks", otherwise, Two Discs are no more able to cover Sergio's career, than a so-called "gem-packed killer" as in 'ONE'...!

A Four-CD, or what I think should be SIX, to cover the Bell & Elektra period--& why not Atlantic????--would be more definitive... (Although I would hate to see what mis-spellings you'd get w/ some of the songs there, too...!)

"Tropical Device Performance" must be a song about how well iPods work in the rain forest.

And the apps are no doubt what Danco Samba Software is about. :D

LOL! I hadn't heard about it until Gracinha's e-mail of last week! Guess I'm a bit slow on the uptake!! LOL!!

Well don't feel bad, Jon..I commented a couple of times in this thread and then I *still* made a new thread announcing this compilation, forgetting this thread existed.

This has got to be the most-announced Sergio album in history! :D

We didn't have the info about the NEW versions of "Fool on the Hill" or "Chove Chuva" before though, so every new thread helps (I guess). :D

I used the title "Celebration" for the very first CD-R I home-made....also by Sergio Mendes! (I must admit this is a much cooler cover than the one I made, however.)

And Madonna's last CD release for Warner was also entitled Celebration and also a double disc, featuring the cool title song, I wonder how many career retrospective CD releases with that title are out there.

Don't understand why they left out "Alibis" - one of my favorite 80s Sergio tracks (and the biggest hit after "Never Gonna....") - sure a good overview of his career, though...

It's interesting how all of his early albums pre-Brasil '66 only get represented by three tracks here. I prefer those over a lot of the newer ones personally.

It's also interesting, though not unexpected, that the Bell/Elektra era stuff is totally ignored.

I know of only one compilation of Sergio's that lumps together both the A&M/Universal catalog with the '70's Elektra/Bell recordings, and that's the COFFEE & BOSSA: THE CHILLOUT SOUND OF SERGIO MENDES disc that came out in 2007 in the Phillipines.

I thought that one had been withdrawn, but Amazon claims they've got one left with more "on the way."
