This thread will feature items of interest that I would like to highlight for the enjoyment of fellow forum members. All items purchased via links in this thread help support the site. Items here can include music (naturally!) including online downloads from Amazon and iTunes, along with other items that our members tend to be interested in, such as video, audio and video products, electronics items (such as music players and memory sticks that some of us use for listening to music), etc. Shoes, clothing, gardening utensils...mmmm, no.

While this thread will be open for comments, I also encourage others to share any deals they may come across!

I tend to watch Amazon UK for deals on CD box sets, as they've had some fantastic deals that are not necessarily echoed over here in the US. What's nice about ordering from Amazon UK is that the price shown is higher than what you pay, if you are shipping to a location outside the UK. UK pricing includes VAT (taxes). If you divide the shown price by 1.2, you can derive your final cost. Shipping from the UK is also very reasonable, and as long as it doesn't ship by DHL (world's slowest package/freight company IMHO), it arrives quickly. My last vinyl order arrived six days later!

For vinyl collectors, some of the UK releases are also cheaper on the Amazon UK site, as opposed to buying them as imports through the US site. One fantastic deal came up today: the Beatles Vinyl box set is listed for 239, which works out to around 200. The one thing to keep in mind here is that the UK pressings are far superior to the US: I own a couple of each, and indeed the US pressings are noisy, and have problems with skipping or even a loud scratch or two. The UK's pressings are much nicer--flat, quiet, and packaged with obvious care. The box set offers a booklet, something you won't get by purchasing the individual albums.

Got A&M? We do! If you're just getting into A&M, here's a work in progress: the A&M Corner Instant A&M Library. Comprised mainly of compilations and anthologies, this Amazon Listmania list features many popular A&M artists and bands from all eras. We're always looking for more entries for this list, so feel free to suggest more! (And yes, it is a bit dated--it predates some Shout Factory reissues! Updates to come soon.)

Cool item for those with an HDTV having an HDMI input: Chromecast. I have one on one of our TVs here in the house. It currently has "apps" that can stream directly from YouTube, Netflix and Pandora, with many more being added in coming months as the developers have just opened up their API. You can control the Chromecast using any compatible device (computer, smartphone, tablet) that runs the Chrome browser. Install the Google Cast extension in Chrome to activate the features. On my Nexus 4 phone, I noticed that my YouTube and Pandora apps automatically detect the presence of a Chromecast device on my network.

Using the Chrome browser, you can also "cast" your current tab to the Chromecast. Simply start a video in the tab, and click on the icon in your Chrome toolbar. That will send the current tab to your TV. What's nice is that is will work with any video you can view on a computer, even in full screen. (I tried it with my Amazon Prime account, full screen, and it works fine!) This is a handy device for viewing those videos that are flagged as being viewable only on a computer, as many have restrictions on not being viewed on "mobile" or via a TV.

Currently on sale at Amazon for $29.99 (regularly $35):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DR0PDNE/

It is rather limited beyond what I described, but in the next year or two it will gain a lot more functionality as developers write more applications for it.

Do you just want links to what's available? I could get some jazz stuff to add.
It would be cool to create a separate A&M Jazz list on Amazon, actually, since there was such a wide variety across all the labels (CTi and Horizon included). Eventually I'm going to have a separate "jazz" site (like we do for Carpenters) where I list a lot of those jazz series, using the AOTWs as a source of info.

I've had a Prime student membership, which is $39 vs. $79. It offers all the same benefits except that you can not buy it for a "family"--in other words, it works only on one Amazon account, as opposed to being able to share your Prime account with other Amazon accounts in your immediate family. The student membership is only available for four years, and you must have a .edu email address to qualify.

Another benefit for all Prime subscribers who own a Kindle: you get access to the free Kindle owners' lending library, meaning that you can "borrow" one book at a time, per month, at no cost.

Tip: if you sign up for the free trial, your account will be charged after the trial period expires. However, you can set your Prime account so it does not auto-renew, even if you've just signed up.

To turn off this automatic renewal:

Go to Manage Prime Membership.
Review the renewal date listed on the left-hand side of the page.

If you currently have an Amazon Prime free trial, click Do Not Continue .
If you currently have a paid Amazon Prime membership, click End Membership .
Turn off your renewal using the link below the renewal date.
Note: Your membership will expire at the end of the current period.

Note: At the end of a free trial period, you'll be automatically upgraded to a paid annual membership for $79.

You can opt out at any time during the free trial period. For more information, go to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership.

While our site home page system is under construction, I temporarily have some Amazon items listed on our forum's "portal" page. These are primarily recent AOTWs and a few compilations, many of which anticipate our future direction here at the Corner.

Which, w/ Valentine's Day coming, should be a good asset to some of us here for that, as well!
