Love hearing this.....

Where is Bob James Rhodes solo? Leaving that out is heresy. This is basically the tune with instrumental stuff created in an audio editor (the audio smearing when the vocal is being eliminated is obvious). Shame the creator didn’t add a solo in the space he created with the instrumental verse. That would have made the musical flow make more sense. Still, it’s fun hearing the band really having fun with this.

This is one of my least favorites from the solo project but this gives an alternate look at it but does not persuade any better appeal. With that said, the backing voices are still the best part of the song.

Interesting to hear it this way. I agree with Ed why leave out the solo part. But I like hearing the backing instruments and drums are cool to hear. Karen’s vocals at 4:45 to the end are cool to hear this way how they drop octaves. Karen could have drummed this.

This is great! Lots of little bits in this I hadn't really noticed before, like the flutes in the opening section and the swirling, descending orchestral parts at the end of the choruses, which are clearer on this version. This was one of my favourite KC solo tracks from first listen and it still is today. Karen should be very proud of her vocal efforts on this track.

I forgot to mention, I love how Karen recorded a John Farrar song. It sounds exactly like what Olivia could have recorded and I wonder if she passed on it and told Karen it would be great for your solo album? It sounds very much like a left over track from her Totally Hot sessions.

At about 1:50 Karen holds a long higher note and closes it with no vibrato. I have rarely if ever heard her do that; there are others here that know every C's song intricately and may be aware of other cases where she has done this.

Overall this is great to hear and probably, in agreement with @newvillefan, my favorite solo track. As with much of her solo efforts I think she stays in her higher register too much, but - there is, in my view, a HIT song here somewhere - not sure what needed to happen (aside from being released, of course).

You're right, when it comes to her lead vocals she rarely if ever did that. Different story with background vocals though, which were done without vibrato a lot of the time - both hers and Richard's.

Just something interesting (I think)...I did a "blind" listen of this for my girlfriend - she's a big Carpenters fan, though not as "crazy" as most of us here .

As soon as she heard the first couple of lines she said "I think that's Olivia Newton John" but then, when Karen dips into her lower register, she says "oh...wait..." and sure enough, figured it was Karen (actually, she said "The Carpenters" as she doesn't know much of Karen's solo stuff).

I hear that too - an ONJ-sounding higher register in parts of this song.
