In original post, the reason for the "ROUTE 101" chart activity was not yet known, as two threads were related, they were merged to one.

"ROUTE 101" is currently #1 Jazz (Download) at Amazon & iTunes. We knew that Herb's hit, "Route 101," was timeless and always sounded fresh,
but who knew that it would go to the top once again? Just goes to show that good music is always popular!

Sadly this shows what is both right and wrong with "disposable" music these days. It's great to see favorites resurface, but also very shallow since most of those purchasers will listen to the tune a few times and never bother to follow up on the artist behind it. These spikes are very short-lived. It's a far cry from making a trip to the record store to purchase the single on a 45RPM record. Yet there will still be a few listeners who like "that Herb Albert guy" and decide to sample (and purchase) more, either the tunes or the entire albums. Achievement unlocked. :)

And don't think surprise appearances of some of these tunes (by anyone) are a fluke. These are often planned promotions by the artist's management. Get a few high profile product placements like this, and it ignites sales.

I wonder how many downloads it takes to hit #1 on those Jazz charts. I know on Billboard, the top LPs used to sell hundreds of thousands of physical units a day, but nowadays sales of about 150,000 physical + downloads in a week's time will get you to #1 on the Top Albums chart.
