Hi, Sergio Mendes followers,

Saturday the 18th. of may I attended a concert in Amsterdam by the Brazilian alto/soprano saxophone player Paulo Mauro and his band Os Batutes.

He played amongst others music mainly from the Brazilian composers Pixuingnha and Ary Barroso
( the pre-Jobim era) in an authenthic ‘Choro’ setting wich included Trombone,
two percussionists, one virtiuso mandoline player, one cavaquinho player , one accordion
and one guitarist.

Mr. Mauro was one of the original Bossa Rio Sextet members along with Octavio Bailly:bass,
Dom Um Romao: Drums, Durval Ferreira: Guitar, Pedro Paulo: trumpet, Raul de Souza: trombone and Sergio Mendes on piano.

Along with Mr. Mauro and Os Batutes played Laudir Oliveira Soares on congas and percussion.
Laudir Oliveira Soares is well knowed as a member of Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’77 and played on albums like Primal Roots, Pais Tropical, The live album from 1971 along with the Rubens Bassini/Claudio Slon/Oscar Castro-Neves/ Sebastião Neto rythm section.

At the concert, mr, Mauro and company was an electryfing conga solo by Laudir Laudir Oliveira Soares wich reminded me at his stellar conga work at Segio’s live album from 1971
(especially the Jorge Ben penned opening track Viramundo.

By the way, wat is happenend with Sergio’s sidemen from Brasil ’88, the fine jazzguitarist
Danny Embrey?

Regards,
Aqua do Brasil.

Hi fellow Mendes fans,

Mr. Laudir was also a member during the mid ’70s with the supergroup Chicago...
